''Esse quam videri'' is a Latin phrase meaning "To be, rather than to seem." It has been used as a motto by a number of different groups. History ''Esse quam videri'' is found in Cicero's essay ''On Friendship'' (''Laelius de Amicitia'', chapter 98). Existence is the state of having being or reality in contrast to nonexistence and nonbeing. The Esse 990 is a racing sportboat designed by Umberto Felci and built by Josef Schuchter Sportboats of Stafa, Switzerland. The first hull was sold in 2008 and series production was begun in 2009. The design is an outgrowth of the success of the Esse 850 which had over 110 boats in the one-design fleet by mid-2009.
