The Township of Esquimalt () is a municipality at the southern tip of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. It is bordered to the east by the provincial capital, Victoria, British Columbia, Victoria, to the south by the Strait of Juan de Fuca, to the west by Esquimalt Harbour and Royal Roads, to the northwest by the New Songhees 1A Indian reserve and the town of View Royal, and to the north by a narrow inlet of water called the Gorge, across which is the district municipality of Saanich, British Columbia, Saanich. It is almost tangential to Esquimalt 1 Indian Reserve near Admirals Road. Greater Victoria (also known as the Greater Victoria Region) is located in British Columbia, Canada, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Esquimalt Harbour is a natural harbour in Greater Victoria on the southern tip of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. The entrance to Esquimalt Harbour is from the south off the Strait of Juan de Fuca through a narrow channel known as Royal Roads. Esquimalt Harbour is situated west of Victoria Harbour, another major harbour in the region. Esquimalt Harbour is home to the Royal Canadian Navy's Maritime Forces Pacific, based at CFB Esquimalt. View Royal is a town in Greater Victoria and a member municipality of the Capital Regional District of British Columbia, Canada. View Royal has a population of 11,575 residents. With over of parkland, View Royal includes Thetis, McKenzie, Pike, and Prior Lakes and portions of Esquimalt Harbour and Portage Inlet. Darlene Rotchford
Darlene Rotchford is a Canadian politician who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in the 2024 general election. She represents the electoral district of Esquimalt-Colwood as a member of the British Columbia New Democratic Party. She is a former municipal councillor in Esquimalt, a mental health and addictions worker, and a labour leader. She resigned from her councillor position after her election to the provincial legislature. A district municipality is a type of municipal classification used in the Canadian province of British Columbia. District municipalities are generally larger in geographic size and have population densities that are lower compared to the province's other classifications – cities, towns, and villages. Esquimalt First Nation (), is one of two First Nation band governments of the Lekwungen peoples, the other being Songhees First Nation. Historically, their village was located closer to Victoria proper, but today their main reserve is on the north shore of Esquimalt Harbour adjacent to View Royal. Royal Roads is a roadstead or anchorage located in Strait of Juan de Fuca near the entrance to Esquimalt Harbour in Greater Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
