Esplugues
Esplugues de Llobregat () is a municipality of the Barcelona metropolitan area. Formerly in the ''Barcelonès'', since 1990 it has been part of the comarca of Baix Llobregat. During recent decades Esplugues has evolved from a predominantly industrial town to a more diverse service area, preserving, however, its cultural and historical identity. It is known for its characteristic old quarter, the only one in the Baix Llobregat area with such evocative and romantic areas. The winding ''Carrer de Montserrat'' goes through the sprawling architectural complex built between 1968 and 2017 by sculptor Xavier Corberó. The mansion of ''Can Cortada'' was home to the Baron Maldà, author of Calaix de Sastre, the most representative work of Catalan literature of the late 18th century. Esplugues holds a remarkable natural area with parks and green spaces such as the Park of Solidarity, the Park of Torrents and the Can Vidalet Park. Xavier Corberó
Xavier Corberó i Olivella (13 June 1935 – 24 April 2017) was a prominent Catalan artist, best known for monumental public sculpture and his palatial house complex in Esplugues de Llobregat near Barcelona. He has been described as "widely considered the most important Catalan artist since Gaudí," as "one of Spain’s most celebrated sculptors" and as having "perhaps influenced Barcelona more than any artist since Gaudí." Family background Corberó's patrilineal family has its roots in Lleida, in the home region of Saint Peter Claver whose 16th-century mother was born Ana Corberó. The family held a tradition of metalworking, especially in bronze. Corberó's grandfather Pere Corberó i Casals (1875-1959) was an entrepreneur and artist whose works included the bronze memorial on the birthplace of Enrique Granados, also in Lleida. Trambaix
The Trambaix () is one of Barcelona's three tram systems. It is operated by TRAMMET connecting the Baix Llobregat area with the city of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It opened to the public on 5 April 2004 after a weekend when the tram could be used free of charge. The Trambaix includes three different routes (T1, T2 and T3). The tram route starts at Plaça Francesc Macià in Barcelona to the west of the city and extends west, passing L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat, Cornellà de Llobregat, Sant Joan Despí and Sant Just Desvern. An extension of Tram T3 opened on 8 December 2006, as far as Consell Comarcal in Sant Feliu de Llobregat. The yearly ridership of all of its lines combined is of 15,057,318 passengers as of 2008. Can Vidalet (Barcelona Metro)
Can Vidalet is a metro station, station on Barcelona Metro line 5, line 5 of the Barcelona Metro. The station is located underneath Carrer de la Maladeta, between Carrer de la Mina and Carrer Hortènsia in Esplugues de Llobregat and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat. It was opened in 1976. Originally and before 1982 was named 'Maladeta'. The side-platform station has a single ticket hall with two access: 1) career Hortènsia (built in 1976); 2) career Maladeta. The building of the second access (2010) had been long promised but the opinion of the affected neighbours was divided.
