Esperance is a town in Schoharie County, New York, United States. The population was 1,806 at the 2020 census. The town was given the name of the principal village, which was named for "hope" in French. The Town of Esperance contains a village called Esperance. The town is in the northeastern part of Schoharie County and is west of Schenectady. History The town was first settled ''circa'' 1729. Esperance village was incorporated in 1818 and rechartered in 1835, before the Town of Esperance was established. The town was formed in 1846 from the Town of Schoharie. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 20.0 square miles (51.9 km2), of which 19.6 square miles (50.7 km2) is land and 0.5 square mile (1.2 km2) (2.29%) is water. Esperance is a village in Schoharie County, New York, United States. The population was 345 at the 2010 census. The village was given the French name for "hope." The Village of Esperance is in eastern part of the Town of Esperance. The village is west of Schenectady. History The village was settled ''circa'' 1793, based on an original land grant, the Ten Eyck Patent of 1769. The village was incorporated in 1818 and a fire department was authorized to be formed. The village is the oldest incorporated village in the county. When the town of Esperance was formed in 1846, it thereupon took the name of the village. Esperance is a census-designated place (CDP) in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. Esperance is an enclave of the city of Edmonds, Washington. The population was 4,007 at the 2020 census, up from 3,601 at the 2010 census. Geography Esperance is located at (47.795006, -122.347487). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.9 km2), all of it land. Esperance Bay is a bay on the south coast of Western Australia. Nominally located at , it is the site of the town of Esperance. The bay was discovered on 9 December 1792 by a French expedition under Bruni d'Entrecasteaux, which sailed in search of the lost expedition of Jean-François de Galaup, comte de Lapérouse.
