Esmé Quartet
The Esmé Quartet is a string quartet, formed in 2016 at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, Germany by four Korean musicians. The ensemble takes its name from an Old French word meaning 'loved' or 'esteemed'. Background The founder members were long ago acquainted with each other as friends. They shared common interests and passions in music, the arts, and life. The quartet has rapidly gained a reputation as a chamber ensemble of exceptional achievement and promise. Esmé studied with (Artemis Quartet) at the Musikhochschule Lübeck, Germany and is currently studying with Oliver Wille (Kuss Quartet) at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, Germany. String Quartet
The term string quartet refers to either a type of musical composition or a group of four people who play them. Many composers from the mid-18th century onwards wrote string quartets. The associated musical ensemble consists of two Violin, violinists, a Viola, violist, and a Cello, cellist. The string quartet was developed into its present form by the Austrian composer Joseph Haydn, whose works in the 1750s established the ensemble as a group of four more-or-less equal partners. Since that time, the string quartet has been considered a prestigious form; writing for four instruments with broadly similar characteristics both constrains and tests a composer. Artemis Quartet
The Artemis Quartet is a German string quartet, founded in 1989 in Lübeck, and now based in Berlin. The quartet is named for the Greek goddess of hunting and the wilderness. History The first members of the Artemis Quartet, Wilken Ranck, Isabel Trautwein, Volker Jacobsen, and Eckart Runge, met as students in Lübeck. Heime Müller replaced Isabel Trautwein in 1991. For personal and health reasons, Wilken Ranck left the quartet in 1994, and Volker Jacobsen and Heime Müller left at the end of the 2006/07 season. Natalia Prishepenko, the subsequent first violinist of the quartet, resigned after 18 years of membership in the ensemble in 2012. Kuss Quartet
The Kuss Quartet with Jana Kuss (violin), Oliver Wille (violin), William Coleman (viola) and Mikayel Hakhnazaryan (cello) is a Berlin-based string quartet. It was founded in 1991 at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" by the two violinists of the ensemble and has been playing in its current formation since 2008. History Among the teachers of the Kuss Quartet were Walter Levin, Christoph Poppen, Eberhard Feltz and the Alban Berg Quartet. In the season 2001/02, the quartet accepted an invitation from Paul Katz of the Cleveland Quartet to study at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Abraham "Bram" Eldering (8 July 1865 – 17 June 1943) was a Dutch violinist and music pedagogue. Life Born in Groningen, Bram (abbreviation of ''Abraham'') Eldering studied violin with Jenő Hubay at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. After his appointment to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, he followed his teacher in 1886. With Victor von Herzfeld and David Popper he played in Hubay's String quartet. St Martin-in-the-Fields is a Church of England parish church at the north-east corner of Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminster, London.
