Esko Nevalainen
Esko Nevalainen (10 May 1925 – 23 July 2008) was a Finnish film cinematographer. His career started in 1945 when he began to work as an assistant for a production company called Filmitaito. Nevalainen got his first major job as a cinematographer in a Matti Kassila film '' Elokuu'' (1956). For this film, he also received his first of four a Jussi Award for best cinematography. Matti Kassila
Matti Kassila (12 January 1924 – 13 December 2018) was a Finnish film director who achieved fame as one of the most prominent Finnish filmmakers in the 1950s and 1960s. He is most famous for the series of four Inspector Palmu movies, based on the character created by Mika Waltari. During his long career, he won seven Jussi Awards, including a concrete Jussi for lifetime achievement, and received numerous other commendations. His 1959 film ''Red Line (1959 film), Punainen viiva'' was entered into the 1st Moscow International Film Festival. He was also one of the screenwriters for the 1968 film ''Here, Beneath the North Star'', directed by Edvin Laine. ''The Harvest Month'' () is a 1956 Finnish drama film directed by Matti Kassila, based on the 1941 novel by F. E. Sillanpää. It was entered into the 1957 Cannes Film Festival. ''The Harvest Month'' was filmed in the spring and summer of 1956. The filming locations were Murole Canal and its surroundings in Ruovesi. The city shots were shot in Tampere, while the interior scenes were shot at the studios in Kulosaari, Helsinki. Jussi Award
The Jussi Awards are Finland's premier film industry prizes, awarded annually to recognize the achievements of directors, actors, and writers. History The first Jussi Awards ceremony was held on 16 November 1944 at the Restaurant Adlon in Helsinki. The award is one of the oldest films awards in Europe. The original planned name for the prize was ''Aino'', but Jussi won in the end. The name comes from a character in the 1924 and 1936 Pohjalaisia films. The awards were originally organized by the ''Elokuvajournalistit'' organization, but the task was transferred in the early 1960s to the ''Filmiaura'' organization, composed of around 300 members working in the Finnish film industry. Because of the controversy surrounding the transfer, no awards were handed out in 1960 and 1961. It is a sequel to Inspector Palmu's Mistake and is followed by The Stars Will Tell, Inspector Palmu. The main cast of actors is the same as that of the first though some actors such as Elina Salo, Pentti Siimes and Aino Mantsas play different characters, It is based on the first Inspector Palmu novel ''Who Murdered Mrs. Skrof?'' (''Kuka murhasi rouva Skrofin?'') by Mika Waltari but was the second one filmed, after ''Inspector Palmu's Mistake (film), Inspector Palmu's Mistake''. Unlike the first film it was produced by Fennada-Filmi. The Headquarters (film)
''The Headquarters'' () is a 1970 Finnish historical war drama film written and directed by Matti Kassila. Based on the 1966 Finnish play ''Päämajassa'' by Ilmari Turja, the film describes the mood and atmosphere of the Finnish army headquarters led by Marshal C. G. E. Mannerheim in Mikkeli in the summer of 1944 during the breakthrough of the Karelian Isthmus. Marshal Mannerheim is played by Joel Rinne in his last film role.
