Frederikssund Municipality
Frederikssund Kommune () is a municipality () on the shores of Roskilde Fjord in the northern part of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. On 1 January 2007, the municipality was enlarged to include the old Jægerspris, Slangerup, and Skibby municipalities. It now covers an area of 250 km2 and has a population of 47,052 (1. The Order of Saint Augustine (), abbreviated OSA, is a mendicant order, mendicant catholic religious order, religious order of the Catholic Church. Eskilsø Monastery ( Danish: ''Eskilsø Kloster'') was an Augustinian monastery on Eskilsø Island in Roskilde Fjord. History The monastery was established in the 12th century and dedicated to Saint Thomas. No records exist of exactly when the monastery was built, but it was likely founded by Eskil during his tenure as the Bishop of Roskilde (1134–1137). This timeline is supported by the fact that Asser, who was elected bishop of Roskilde in 1139, was a former cloistered resident of the monastery. The monks of the monastery were canons regular, and besides religious and theological immersion they were responsible for the upkeep and development of the monastery and its belongings. In addition to the lands of Eskilsø, which were primarily used for grazing, it was endowed with properties in and around Jyllinge, including Jyllinge Church, a water mill, and a few corvée farms. This is a list of islands of Denmark. Overview There are around 1400 islands in Denmark, where about 409 of the islands are named, not including the Faroe Islands or Greenland. Some 70 of them are populated while the rest are uninhabited. Some of the uninhabited islands have only become uninhabited in recent decades, for economic reasons, as lighthouses and other publicly run facilities either became automated, or relocated to main islands or Jutland peninsula.
