Esk Divisional Board
The Shire of Esk was a Local government in Australia, local government area in South East Queensland, South East Queensland, Australia, located about west – northwest of Brisbane. It stretched from the Lockyer Valley, Queensland, Lockyer Valley north and west to the Great Dividing Range and up the valley of the Brisbane River. Esk covered an area of , and existed from 1879 until its merger with the Shire of Kilcoy to form the Somerset Region on 15 March 2008. History The Durundur Division was incorporated on 11 November 1879 under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'' with a population of 1428. Its name was changed to Esk Division on 2 June 1880 by proclamation. On 18 January 1884, there was an adjustment of boundaries between Highfields Division's subdivisions Nos. 1 and 2 and Esk Division. Brisbane River
The Brisbane River (Turrbal language, Turrbal: ) is the longest river in South East Queensland, Australia. It flows through the city of Brisbane, before emptying into Moreton Bay on the Coral Sea. Colinton is a rural locality in the Somerset Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Colinton had a population of 60 people. Geography Colinton lies within the water catchment area of Emu Creek, a tributary of the Brisbane River. The creek marks a portion of both the southern and western boundary and the Brisbane River is aligned with the eastern boundary. Clarendon is a rural locality in the Somerset Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Clarendon had a population of 232 people. Geography The locality takes its name from Lake Clarendon (approx to the south-west). Lockyer Creek enters the locality from the south-west ( Mount Tarampa / Rifle Range) and forms part of the southern boundary of the locality. Geography The locality is bounded to the south by Lake Wivenhoe and to the east and north by the Brisbane River. The Esk Kilcoy Road passes through the locality, entering from the south-west ( Coal Creek) and exiting to the north-east (the locality of Lake Wivenhoe). History The locality name derives from the Caboonbah Homestead built by Henry Plantagenet Somerset. The name derives from the Kabi language "cabon gibbah" meaning ''big rock''. Caboonbah Homestead was built in 1889-90 for grazier Henry Plantagenet Somerset and his wife Katherine Rose (née McConnel) and their family. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 12 December 1996. It was destroyed by fire in 2009 and removed from the Queensland Heritage Register in 2014.
