Carlos Pereyra School (''Escuela Carlos Pereyra'') is a private Catholic basic education institution run by the Society of Jesus in La Laguna region of Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico. It was founded by the Jesuits in 1942 and offers grades from preschool through high school. History The members of the National Union of Catholic Students (UNEC) with the assistance of Leobardo Fernández launched the school in 1942. It was affiliated with the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and named after Carlos Pereyra a historian and diplomat, and native of Saltillo, Coahuila. High school classes began in law and social sciences, in physics and chemistry, and in physics and mathematics. Comarca Lagunera
The Comarca Lagunera or La Comarca de la Laguna ("region of lagoons") is a region of northern Mexico occupying large portions of the states of Durango and Coahuila, with rich soils produced by periodic flooding of the Nazas_River, Nazas and Aguanaval_River, Aguanaval rivers. Neither river drains into either the Pacific Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico, but rather they created Bolsón_de_Mapimí, a series of inland lakes. The region was developed for large-scale irrigated cotton agriculture. During the Mexican Revolution, the region was the site of fierce fighting. Following the military phase of the Revolution, the region was part of the Land reform in Mexico#Cardenista land reform 1934 to 1940, agrarian reform under President Lázaro Cárdenas. The dam named for Cárdenas now controls flooding of the rivers, but the groundwater resources are no longer recharged as a result. It is the 8th largest metropolitan area in Mexico. The Iberoamerican University Torreón (''Universidad Iberoamericana Torreón'') is a private university located in the city of Torreón. Saltillo () is the capital and largest city of the northeastern Mexican state of Coahuila and is also the municipal seat of the municipality of the same name. Carlos Pereyra (writer)
Carlos Hilario Pereyra Gómez (1871–1942) was a Mexican lawyer, diplomat, writer and historian. His background was highly influenced by late 19th century positivism, so this influence is denoted in his works. He was also a Hispanist, defender of the historical and cultural legacy of Spain in Spanish America and critic of the American Interventionism policy in Latin America. Lawyer and columnist Pereyra was born in Saltillo, Coahuila, in 1871, the son of Miguel Pereyra Bosque and María de Jesús Gómez Méndez. As a lawyer, he was an ex officio defender in Mexico City, agent of '' Ministerio Público'' and member of the state treasury commission of Coahuila.
