Escondido Adventist Academy
Escondido Adventist Academy (EAA) is a private, Seventh-day Adventist-governed Christian school in Escondido, California, serving students in grades K-12. It is operated by a school board which represents the 14 Seventh-day Adventist churches in San Diego North County. It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system. Escondido Adventist Academy is a part of the Southeastern California Conference of the SDA School System. The school began under the name "Escondido Junior Academy". It moved to West 9th Avenue in Escondido in September of 1956, where it operated grades 1–8. Grade 9 was added in 1957 and grade 10 in 1958. Two new classrooms, a workshop and recreation area were added in 1959 (Times Advocate article, July 6, 1959). Escondido is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. Located in the North County region, it was incorporated in 1888, and is one of the oldest cities in San Diego County. It has a population of 151,038 as of the 2020 census. Etymology "Escondido" is a Spanish word meaning "hidden". One source says the name originally referred to ''agua escondida'' or hidden water; another says it meant "hidden treasure". The city is known as ''Eskondiid'' in Kumeyaay. History The Escondido area was first settled by the Luiseño, who established campsites and villages along the creek running through the area. The CIF San Diego Section (CIF-SDS) is the governing body of high school athletics for most of the two southernmost counties of California (San Diego and Imperial Counties), one of ten such sections that comprise the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Adventism is a branch of Protestant Christianity that believes in the imminent Second Coming (or the "Second Advent") of Jesus Christ.
