Erzhan Tatishev
Yerzhan Tatishev ( kk, Ержан Нұрелдайымұлы Тәтішев, ''Erjan Nureldaıymuly Tátishev''; 22 April 1967 – 19 December 2004) was Kazakhstani banker who was the chairman and CEO of BTA Bank JSC. In December 2004, the 37-year-old Tatishev died of a gunshot wound sustained while driving in the Jambyl Region. Kazakh businessman Muratkhan Tokmadi initially claimed to have shot him accidentally while hunting and was sentenced to one year in prison after being convicted of manslaughter. However, the case was re-opened in 2017, after he confessed in a documentary to deliberately murdering Tatishev after being paid to do so by ex- oligarch Mukhtar Ablyazov. In March 2018, Tokmadi was sentenced to 10 1/2 years in prison. Ablyazov, who resides in France, is already wanted in Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine for financial crimes. Jambyl or Zhambyl Region ( kk, Жамбыл облысы, translit=Jambyl oblysy; russian: Жамбылская область, Zhambylskaya oblast), formerly known as Dzhambul Region (russian: Джамбульская область, Dzhambulskaya Oblast) until 1991, is a region of Kazakhstan. Mukhtar Qabyluly Ablyazov ( kk, Мұхтар Қабылұлы Әблязов, ''Muhtar Qabyluly Ábliazov''; born 16 May 1963) is a Kazakh businessman and political activist who served as chairman of Bank Turan Alem (BTA Bank), and is a co-founder and a leader of the unregistered political party Democratic Choice of Kazakhstan (QDT). He was also the former head of the state-owned Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) as well as briefly holding the position of Minister for Energy, Industry, and Trade under Balgimbayev's cabinet before resigning from and joining the opposition against President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
