Ervin Yen
Ervin Stone Yen (born 1954) is an American physician and politician who represented the 40th District in the Oklahoma Senate from 2014 to 2018. Early life and education Yen was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1954. His parents moved to the United States in 1959 and settled in northwest Oklahoma City. Yen graduated from Putnam City High School in Warr Acres. Yen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from the University of Oklahoma and then a medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. Career Outside of politics, Yen works as an anesthesiologist. He witnessed Oklahoma's October 28, 2021 execution of John Grant with a three-drug lethal injection protocol and testified as an expert for the state Attorney General's office, at a rate of $250 per hour, that the prisoner was fully unconscious despite some witnesses claiming they observed him struggling to breathe, convulsing, and vomiting on the execution gurney. Joy Lynn Hofmeister (née Janosky, born September 7, 1964) is an American educator and politician who served as the Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction from 2015 to 2023. On October 7, 2021, Hofmeister switched parties to run for the Democratic nomination in Oklahoma's 2022 gubernatorial election. She won the Democratic nomination and lost the general election to incumbent Kevin Stitt. Due to her switch, Hofmeister is to date the only Democrat since 2011 to hold statewide office in Oklahoma. John Kevin Stitt (born December 28, 1972) is an American businessman and politician serving as the 28th governor of Oklahoma since 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he was elected in 2018, defeating Democrat and former state Attorney General Drew Edmondson with 54.3% of the vote. The 2022 Oklahoma gubernatorial election was held on November 8, 2022, to elect the governor of Oklahoma. Incumbent Republican Party (United States), Republican governor Kevin Stitt was re-elected to a second term, with 55.5% of the vote, defeating Democratic Party (United States), Democratic nominee Joy Hofmeister. Although Stitt won by a comfortable margin, and even expanded his margin from 2018 Oklahoma gubernatorial election, 2018, his performance was the worst of any 2022 Republican candidate for statewide office in Oklahoma.
