Errill () is a village in southwest County Laois, Ireland, near the County Tipperary and County Kilkenny borders. It is 6 km west of Rathdowney and 12 km north-east of Templemore. The village is centred on a village green around which sits a shop with the local post office, two pubs and a Roman Catholic church. The local primary school and village hall are less than from the village near St Kieran's church and Errill cemetery. Páirc Eiréil belonging to Errill GAA club is also located less than from the village. Laois Senior Hurling Championship
The Laois Senior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Laois GAA clubs. The Laois County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1888. Clough–Ballacolla are the title holders, defeating Rathdowney–Errill by 2-22 to 0-22 in the 2024 final. Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the Bob O'Keefe Cup. The winners of the Laois Senior Championship qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship. They often do well there and Clough–Ballacolla were in the 2021 Leinster Final after winning the Laois Senior Hurling Championship. The winners can, in turn, go on to play in the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship. Errill GAA
Errill GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in Errill in County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green and white. The club grounds on the Roscrea Road are called Páirc Eiréil. The club currently amalgamates at all levels of hurling with neighbouring club Rathdowney and in 2006 the Rathdowney-Errill team won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship for the first time ever. The Errill club has twice won the Laois Senior Hurling Championship, (1938 and 1952) and won the Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship in 1981. It also won the Laois U-21 B Hurling Championship in 1997. Although football would be very much a secondary sport in the area, there has been some success with wins in the Laois Junior C Football Championship in 2000 and 2016 and the Laois Junior B Football Championship in 2017 and 2019. County Laois ( ; ) is a county in Ireland. It is part of the Eastern and Midland Region and in the province of Leinster. It was known as Queen's County from 1556 to 1922. The modern county takes its name from Loígis, a medieval kingdom. Historically, it has also been known as County Leix. Rathdowney or Rathdowny () is a small town in southwest County Laois, Ireland. It lies some 32 km southwest of Portlaoise in the Irish Midlands, at the point where the R433 regional road from Abbeyleix to Templemore is crossed by the R435 from Borris-in-Ossory to Johnstown. The R433 provides access for Rathdowney to the Dublin-Cork M8 motorway, while the R435 links the town to the Dublin-Limerick M7. As of the 2016 census, the population of Rathdowney was 1,271.
