Eros Atalia
Eros S. Atalia is a Filipino author, professor and journalist from Cavite City, Philippines who wrote several books including the Palanca Awards, Palanca Award-winning 'Tatlong Gabi, Tatlong Araw' (lit. Three Nights, Three Days) in 2013 and ''Ang Ikatlong Anti-Kristo''' (lit. The Third Antichrist) in 2017. His book 'Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me' (published in 2009) was Ligo na Ü, Lapit na Me, adapted into film in 2011. He is a faculty member at De La Salle University Manila, and was a resident at the International Writing Program of the University of Iowa. Atalia also co-founded the defunct local newspaper Responde Cavite, where he also served as an editor. Eros (, ; ) is the Greek god of love and sex. The Romans referred to him as Cupid or Amor. In the earliest account, he is a primordial god, while in later accounts he is the child of Aphrodite. He is usually presented as a handsome young man, though in some appearances he is a juvenile boy full of mischief, ever in the company of his mother. In both cases, he is winged and carries his signature bow and arrows, which he uses to make both mortals and immortal gods fall in love, often under the guidance of Aphrodite. His role in myths is mostly complementary, and he often appears in the presence of Aphrodite and the other love gods and often acts as a catalyst for people to fall in love, but has little unique mythology of his own; the most major exception being the myth of Eros and Psyche, the story of how he met and fell in love with his wife. Cavite City, officially the City of Cavite ( and ) is a Cities of the Philippines#Legal classification, component city in the Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 100,674 people. The city was the capital of Cavite, Cavite Province from its establishment in 1614 until the title was transferred to the newly created, more accessible city of Trece Martires in 1954. The Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, popularly known as the Palanca Memorial Awards, are a set of literary awards for Philippine writers. Usually referred to as the "Pulitzer Prize of the Philippines," it is the country's highest literary honor in terms of prestige. It was named after Carlos T. Palanca, Sr., the Filipino-Chinese businessman and philanthropist. The literary competition began with a long-term vision straddling two complementary tracks: to provide incentives for Filipino writers to craft the best literary pieces, and to be a treasury to the country's literary gems.
