Eromangateuthis
''Eromangateuthis'' is an extinct genus of large plesioteuthidid cephalopod from the Cretaceous of Australia and possibly Canada. Description ''Eromangateuthis soniae'' is known from several gladii found in the Allaru Formation of Queensland and a potential gladius from the Northumberland Formation of British Columbia. It was originally described in 1993 as ''Boreopeltis soniae'', but was moved to its own genus in 2019 based on multiple differences between it and the type species of ''Boreopeltis''. The generic name is derived from the Eromanga Basin in which it was discovered and the Ancient Greek ''teuthís'' ( τευθίς, 'squid'). Northumberland Formation
The Northumberland Formation is a Late Cretaceous (?Campanian-?Maastrichtian)-aged geologic formation in Canada. It belongs to the larger Nanaimo Group. Indeterminate bird and pterosaur fossils have been recovered from the formation, as well as a potential gladius of ''Eromangateuthis''. The Northumberland Formation has been known to science since at least 2008. The Albian is both an age of the geologic timescale and a stage in the stratigraphic column. It is the youngest or uppermost subdivision of the Early/Lower Cretaceous Epoch/ Series. Its approximate time range is 113.0 ± 1.0 Ma to 100.5 ± 0.9 Ma (million years ago). The Albian is preceded by the Aptian and followed by the Cenomanian. The mantle (also known by the Latin word pallium meaning mantle, robe or cloak, adjective pallial) is a significant part of the anatomy of molluscs: it is the dorsal body wall which covers the visceral mass and usually protrudes in the form of flaps well beyond the visceral mass itself. Eromanga Basin
The Eromanga Basin is a large Mesozoic sedimentary basin in central and northern Australia. It covers parts of Queensland, the Northern Territory, South Australia, and New South Wales, and is a major component of the Great Artesian Basin. The Eromanga Basin covers 1,000,000 km2 and overlaps part of the Cooper Basin. The basin is made of sandstone, siltstone, mudstone, coal, shale, and red beds. Two impact structures have been identified in the basin, Mount Toondina crater and Tookoonooka crater. In Queensland and South Australia the Eromanga Basin has been explored and developed for petroleum production. Commercial quantities of gas were first discovered in 1976 and oil in 1978. The basin contains Australia's largest onshore oilfield, the Jackson oil field. Moomba is the centre of South Australia's oil production in the basin.
