Ernesto Tagliaferri
Ernesto Tagliaferri (1889 in Naples – 1937 in Naples), was an Italian musician and composer of Neapolitan songs. His songs are world-famous and have been recorded by many singers. Biography Born in Naples on 18 November 1889, the father was a barber with his "Salon" in Via S. Antonio Abate in Naples. He graduated in violin and composition at the Conservatory S. Pietro a Maiella of Naples. He began his career directing main companies in the Eden and La Fenice theatres in Naples. During the First World War he started an orchestra giving concerts for the troops and composing patriotic songs like "Italia mia". In 1926 he started the musical publishing house ''La bottega dei Quattro'' (The Workshop of the Four) with the authors Bovio, Lama and Valente. He settled down in Torre del Greco with his wife Lucia D'Orlando, sister-in-law of tenor Francesco Albanese. He died suddenly the 6 March 1937 aged 48. It is situated in the complex of San Pietro a Majella. Francesco Albanese
Francesco Albanese (13 August 1912 – 11 June 2005) was a lyric tenor, particularly associated with the Italian repertory. Albanese studied in Rome with Francesco Salfi, and made his stage debut in 1940, at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, as Evandre in Gluck's '' Alceste'', where he remained until 1942, also singing Almaviva, Fenton, Rinuccio. In 1942, he made his debut at La Fenice in Venice, as Ramiro, at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, as Don Ottavio, and at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, as Fenton. Libero Bovio
Libero Bovio (9 June 1883 – 26 May 1942) was a Neapolitan lyricist and dialect poet. Bovio was one of those responsible for the rejuvenation of Neapolitan dialect in plays, poetry and song at the beginning of the twentieth century. He took odd jobs at newspapers and then went to work in the export office of the National Museum. He then became director of ''Canzonetta'' a small publishing concern dedicated to the music of Naples. A collection of his dialect comedies appeared in 1923 and his collected poems were published in 1928. He is primarily remembered for his lyrics to some 600 Neapolitan songs, set to the music of prominent Neapolitan songwriters of his day. Among his best remembered lyrics are ''Reginella'', Passione (song), O paese d' 'o sole'' and, in 1925, ''Lacreme napulitane'', a song that describes the drama of the immigrant Neapolitan in America.
