Ernesto Ganelli
Ernesto Ganelli (24 February 1901 – 9 September 1985) was an Italian civil engineer who designed various public and religious buildings in Tuscany. Biography Born in Alessandria, Ganelli graduated in civil engineering at the Sapienza University of Rome in 1924. He moved to Grosseto, Tuscany, where he became one of the most influential civil engineers and architects of that city. In his career he designed hundreds of public, religious and private buildings in southern Tuscany, and he designed almost all of the churches built in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Grosseto, dioceses of Grosseto and Roman Catholic Diocese of Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello, Pitigliano-Sovana-Orbetello during the 20th century. Alessandria
Alessandria (; ) is a city and commune in Piedmont, Italy, and the capital of the Province of Alessandria. It is also the largest municipality of the region. San Giuseppe Benedetto Cottolengo is a Roman Catholic church in Grosseto, Tuscany. It is dedicated to St. Joseph Benedict Cottolengo, the founder of the Little House of Divine Providence. The church is situated in the eastern part of the city's urban area, on Via Scansanese, in the Alberino neighborhood. Bagnore
Bagnore () is a village in Tuscany, central Italy, administratively a frazione of the comune of Santa Fiora, province of Grosseto. At the time of the 2001 census its population amounted to 420. Bagnore is about 60 km from Grosseto and 2 km from Santa Fiora, and it is situated along the provincial road which links Santa Fiora to Arcidosso, in the southern side of Monte Amiata. Bagnore is well known for its geothermal activity. The springs of ''Acquaforte'' were very popular during the 19th century and they were awarded at the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1900. San Donato is a village in Tuscany, central Italy, administratively a frazione of the comune of Orbetello, province of Grosseto, in the Tuscan Maremma. At the time of the 2011 census its population amounted to 18. San Donato is about 30 km from Grosseto and 15 km from Orbetello. The village was founded in the late 1950s as a result of the ''riforma fondiaria'' (land reform) in Maremma. It is divided into the hamlets of ''San Donato Centro'' and ''San Donato Vecchio''. Sacro Cuore di Gesù (Sacred Heart of Jesus) is a minor basilica in Grosseto, Tuscany, Italy. The church was commissioned by the bishop of Grosseto Paolo Galeazzi, who intended to pay homage to the fallen in the 1943 Grosseto bombing. On 26 April 1943, the day of Easter Monday, the city was bombed by the Americans, who concentrated on targeting civilians. 134 civilians died that day, including children who were playing in a funfair set up outside the city walls. The building was designed by engineer Ernesto Ganelli. Construction began in 1954 and was completed in four years. On 26 April 1958, the 15th anniversary of the bombing, bishop Paolo Galeazzi consecrated the church that was elevated to minor basilica by pope Pius XII on 6 June.
