Erne West (District Electoral Area)
Erne West is one of the seven district electoral areas (DEA) in Fermanagh and Omagh, Northern Ireland. The district elects five members to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and contains the wards of Belcoo and Garrison, Boho, Cleenish and Letterbreen, Derrygonnelly, Derrylin and Florence Court and Kinawley. Erne West forms part of the Fermanagh and South Tyrone constituencies for the Northern Ireland Assembly and UK Parliament. Fermanagh And Omagh District Council
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council ( ga, Comhairle Ceantair Fhear Manach agus na hÓmaí; Ulster-Scots: ''Districk Cooncil o Fermanagh an Omey'') is a local authority in Northern Ireland and was established on 1 April 2015. It replaced Fermanagh District Council and Omagh District Council and covers most of the southwest of Northern Ireland. Its first election was on 22 May 2014, and it acted as a shadow authority prior to the creation of the Fermanagh and Omagh district in April 2015. 2023 Fermanagh And Omagh District Council Election
The 2023 election to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council was held on 18 May 2023, alongside other local elections in Northern Ireland, two weeks after local elections in England. The Northern Ireland elections were delayed by 2 weeks to avoid overlapping with the coronation of King Charles III. Voters returned 40 members to the council via Single Transferable Vote. Irish Independence Party
The Irish Independence Party (IIP) was a nationalist political party in Northern Ireland, founded in October 1977 p. 135. by Frank McManus (former Unity MP for Fermanagh & South Tyrone between 1970 and 1974) and Fergus McAteer (son of Eddie McAteer, who had been leader of the Nationalist Party between 1953 and 1969). The party was effectively a merger of Unity and the Nationalist Party, as the bulk of activists and councillors from the two movements joined IIP. However several independent councillors also joined the party. It was boosted in the late 1970s by the defection of a prominent Protestant Larne Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) councillor, John Turnley, later the party chairman, who was killed in 1980 in Carnlough, County Antrim, by an attack claimed by the Ulster Defence Association. The first election to Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, part of the 2014 Northern Ireland local elections, Northern Ireland local elections on 22 May 2014, returned 40 members to the Reform of local government in Northern Ireland, newly-formed council via Single Transferable Vote. Sinn Féin emerged as the largest party with seventeen seats, eight ahead of the Ulster Unionist Party and four seats away from overall control. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. Elections took place for Fermanagh and Omagh District Council on 2 May 2019, part of that year's local elections. 40 Councillors were elected via STV. Sinn Féin emerged as the largest party with Fifteen seats, six ahead of the Ulster Unionist Party and six seats away from overall control.
