Erling Østerberg
Erling Østerberg (2 November 1901 – 11 September 1981) was a Norwegian police officer. He was born in Beitstad, and was the father of sociologist Dag Østerberg. During the German occupation of Norway he was active in preventing Nazification of the police corps, was arrested at the Martial law in Trondheim in 1942, incarcerated at the Falstad concentration camp for some months, and subsequently expelled from the city. He served as police chief in Trondheim for 26 years, from 1945 to 1971. He was member of several public commissions and committees, and served as board member of various companies. Beitstad
Beitstad () is a village in Steinkjer Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village is located along the Beitstadsundet strait at the end of the Beitstadfjorden at the inner end of the Trondheimsfjord, about southwest of the village of Vellamelen and about north of the town of Steinkjer. Beitstad is situated along Norwegian County Road 17 () which has twisted through the village since 1867. It is a typical farming village that stretches from the bay and into the hinterland to the east. Animal husbandry, crop production, and forestry have traditionally been the prime industries. Beitstad Church is located in this village. The village was the administrative centre of the old Beitstad Municipality which existed from 1838 until 1964 when it was merged into Steinkjer Municipality. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works. Early life, education and marriage He was born in Larvik as the son of school inspector Hermann Olai Helle (1893–1973) and teacher Berta Marie Malm (1906–1991). He was the older brother of politician Ingvar Lars Helle. The family moved to Hetland when Knut Helle was seventeen years old. He took the examen artium in Stavanger in 1949, and a teacher's education in Kristiansand in 1952. He studied philology in Oslo and Bergen, and graduated with the cand.philol. degree in 1957. Dag Østerberg
Dag Østerberg (9 November 1938 – 22 February 2017) was a Norwegian sociologist, philosopher and musicologist. He was born in Trondheim to police officer Erling Østerberg and Jørgine Sofie Kleven. He was a central contributor to the so-called positivism debate in the 1960s and 1970s. From 1981 to 1991 he was appointed professor in sociology at the University of Oslo.
