Eriku is a suburb of Lae in the Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. Nomenclature The name Eriku is said to derive from ''Eric Woo'' which was the first store to be built in the location Location Eriku is located in the North of Lae, East of the Highlands Highway and North of Milford Haven Road. To the South of Eriku are the Lae Botanic Gardens. To the West is the Lae Golf Club. Infrastructure Highlands Transport hub The Eriku Public Motor Vehicle (PMV) terminal is the point of departure from Lae to the highlands. Papindo building In 1987 the Lae Fish Supply company built the Papindo building in Eriku which was the location of the modern supermarket and department store. Lae Botanic Gardens
The Lae Botanic Gardens are located in Bumneng, Eriku and Lae City in the Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. Within this location is the Papua New Guinea Forest Research Unit, the Papua New Guinea National Herbarium and the Lae War Cemetery. Description The Lae Botanic Gardens occupies 38 hectares. The garden mostly consists of natural lowland rain forest with creeks running through. It also contains greenhouses for special Orchidaceae and Araceae collections. The gardens are administered by the Papua New Guinea Forest Research Institute and have approximately 1500 - 2000 plant species. The landscape is dominated my many large buttressed trees which are densely covered by Epiphytes and climbers. Kainantu
Kainantu is a town in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. It had some historical significance as an airstrip town during WWII. It functions primarily as a market town for local produce growers and cash croppers. It is located on the "Highlands Highway" approximately by road from Lae and by road from Goroka. It is approx from a nearby missionary station Ukarumpa and is nearby the Aiyura valley. Kainantu has basic facilities such as a school, hospital, police station, district court, and service stations.
