Erik Postma
Erik Postma (15 December 1953, Rotterdam - 25 September 2002, Middenbeemster) was a Dutch politician of the Democrats 66 Democrats 66 (; abbreviated D66, ) is a Social liberalism, social liberal List of political parties in the Netherlands, political party in the Netherlands, which positions itself in the Centrism, centre of the Left–right political spectrum, p ... party. In 1992 he was elected as city manager (''gemeentesecretaris'') of Budel. After the municipal reorganization of North Brabant on 1 January 1997, Budel was incorporated along with the municipality Maarheeze in the new municipality Cranendonck, and Postma was made city manager. In April 1998 Postma was appointed mayor of the northern Dutch municipality of Beemster. During his mayoral term, he died suddenly of cardiac arrest in September 2002. Middenbeemster
Middenbeemster is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the former municipality of Beemster, and lies about 6 km northwest of Purmerend. Since 2022 it has been part of the municipality of Purmerend. In 2001, the town of Middenbeemster had 3628 inhabitants. Democrats 66 (; abbreviated D66, ) is a social liberal political party in the Netherlands, which positions itself in the centre of the political spectrum. It is a member of the Liberal International (LI) and the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE). The name of the party refers to its year of foundation, 1966. Initially, its main objective had been to democratise the Dutch political system, but it developed a broader social liberal ideology over time. In the 1967 general election, the party won 7 out of 150 seats in the House of Representatives. No new party had ever gained that many seats before. The party was in government from 1973 to 1977, 1981 to 1982, 1994 to 2002, 2003 to 2006 and 2017 to 2021. It currently holds 24 seats in the House of Representatives, 7 seats in the Senate and 2 seats in the European Parliament. Budel
Budel is a town in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Cranendonck, 25 km outside Eindhoven. Kempen Airport is located near Budel. History It was first mentioned in 779 as in Budilio, and means "place with houses". Budel developed in the Early Middle Ages from a collection of agrarian settlements around the Buulder Aa. In 1421, it became part of the Meierij van 's-Hertogenbosch. The Catholic Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a basilica-like church built between 1904 and 1912 with a tall tower. The Schepenhuis is located on the main market and was built in 1771. It has been used as town hall, but also as market. Between 1981 and 1982, it was restored and returned to its original shape. Maarheeze
Maarheeze is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Cranendonck, about 15 km southeast of Eindhoven, near the Belgian and the German borders. History The village was first mentioned in 1223 as in Marresia. The etymology is unclear. Maarheeze is a church village which developed in the Early Middle Ages. Maarheeze was home to 220 people in 1840. The Catholic St Gertrudis Church was built between 1909 and 1910 and has two towers. In 1913, a railway station was built in Maarheeze, however it closed in 1938 and the building was demolished in 1966. A new railway station was built in 2010. In 1955, a factory was opened by Philips. Maarheeze used to be a separate municipality. It merged with Budel in 1997, and changed its name to Cranendonck. Beemster
Beemster () is a former municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The Beemster is the first so-called polder in the Netherlands that was reclaimed from a lake, the water being extracted from the lake by windmills. The Beemster polder was drained between 1609 and 1612. It has preserved intact its well-ordered landscape of fields, roads, canals, dykes and settlements, laid out in accordance with classical and Renaissance planning principles. A grid of canals parallels the grid of roads in the Beemster. The grids are offset: the larger feeder canals are offset by approximately one kilometer from the larger roads. Beemster merged into the existing municipality of Purmerend on 1 January 2022.
