Erica Fischer
Erica Fischer (born 1 January 1943 in St. Albans) is an Austrian writer, translator, and women's rights activist. She is best known for her book ''Aimée & Jaguar. Eine Liebesgeschichte, Berlin 1943'' (1994), about Lilly Wust and Felice Schragenheim, which was adapted into the 1999 film ''Aimée & Jaguar''. The book won Fischer a Lambda Literary Award Lambda Literary Awards, also known as the "Lammys", are awarded yearly by Lambda Literary Foundation, Lambda Literary to recognize the crucial role LGBTQ+ writers play in shaping the world. Lilly Wust
Charlotte Elisabeth Wust ( Kappler; 1 November 1913 – 31 March 2006) was a German housewife, the wife of a German banking accountant and soldier during World War II. She was known for her romantic relationship with Felice Schragenheim, a Jewish member of the German Resistance. The story of their relationship is portrayed in the 1999 film ''Aimée & Jaguar'', and in a book of the same name by Erica Fischer. She was declared Righteous Among the Nations on 31 August 1995 by Yad Vashem for her efforts to rescue Jewish women and shield them from Nazi persecution during World War II." Felice Schragenheim
Felice Rahel Schragenheim (9 March 1922 – between 31 December 1944 and March 1945) was a Jewish resistance fighter during World War II. She is known for her tragic love story with Lilly Wust. She was murdered either on a death march from Gross-Rosen concentration camp to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp or not later than March 1945 in Bergen-Belsen. The story of the relationship between Schragenheim and Wust is portrayed in the 1999 film ''Aimée & Jaguar'', and in a book of the same name by Erica Fischer. It is also the subject of the 1997 documentary ''Love Story: Berlin 1942''. Schragenheim was deported from Berlin to KZ Theresienstadt (now Czech Republic) on 8 September 1944 by the Nazi Gestapo secret police (transport nr. ''I/116''). ''Aimée & Jaguar'' is a 1999 German drama film set in Berlin during World War II. It was written and directed by Max Färberböck and based on Erica Fischer's book chronicling the actual lives of Lilly Wust and Felice Schragenheim during that time. Before Erica Fischer's bestseller, Lilly Wust was tracked down by the American journalist, author, and noted Holocaust researcher Charles Brady, who considered Lilly Wust a Holocaust victim. It was over a year and a half, however, before Wust was able to confide in Brady and tell him her whole story. They remained close friends for 20 years until her death in 2006. Fischer's book contains photos of the many letters shared between herself and Wust, and of official correspondence after World War II in regard to Felice's whereabouts.
