Eric Robinson (conductor)
Eric Robinson (13 December 1908 – 24 July 1974) was a conductor and presenter of music for the BBC. During World War II, Robinson served in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps: in 1943, he was with the depot band at Chilwell Central Ordnance Depot, and conducted "The Blue Rockets", a section of the band who provided light music. He was twice the musical director of the Eurovision Song Contest when staged in London in 1960 and 1963 and on other occasions between 1957 and 1965, Robinson conducted the orchestra accompanying the United Kingdom's entry in the competition. In 1962, Robinson and musician George Clouston bought IBC Studios from Leonard Plugge. Robinson also provided the financial support and backing for Mellotronics, a company formed to distribute and market the Mellotron tape-replay keyboard, and Robinson was heavily involved in the original marketing and promotion. Eric Robinson (Canadian Politician)
Eric Robinson (born February 5, 1953) is an Aboriginal Canadian politician in Manitoba. He was previously a member of the Manitoba legislature, and a cabinet minister in the New Democratic government of Greg Selinger. Born in Norway House, Manitoba, he was placed in a residential school at the age of five. Robinson is a member of the Cross Lake First Nation, covered under Treaty 5. Robinson worked at a variety of jobs including dishwasher in Churchill, an addiction counsellor in British Columbia and a radio disc jockey. He has been active in Aboriginal issues for several years, and has worked for the Assembly of First Nations and the Brotherhood of Indian Nations, as well as other organizations promoting native rights within Canada. Before entering provincial politics, Robinson was also a producer and broadcaster for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and worked for Native Communications Incorporated. Eric Laidlaw Robinson (18 January 1929 – 7 January 1981) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Liberal Party and held ministerial office in the Fraser government, serving as Minister for the Capital Territory (1975–1976), Post and Telecommunications (1976–1977), and Finance (1977–1979, 1979–1980). He represented the Queensland seat of McPherson in the House of Representatives from 1972 until his death in 1981. Early life Robinson was born on 18 January 1929 in East Brisbane, Queensland, the son of Florence Evelyn (née Laidlaw) and Arthur Neville Robinson. He attended the Slade School in Warwick and then joined his father's sporting goods business. Prior to entering politics he served as managing director and chairman of Robinson Holdings Pty Ltd, overseeing "a chain of stores in coastal Queensland". Eric Gascoigne Robinson
Rear admiral (Royal Navy), Rear Admiral Eric Gascoigne Robinson (16 May 1882 – 20 August 1965) was a Royal Navy officer and a recipient of the Victoria Cross. He earned his award by going ashore and single-handedly destroying a Turkish naval gun battery while a lieutenant commander with the fleet stationed off the Dardanelles during the Gallipoli campaign in the First World War. After these exploits, he was wounded on the front line on the Gallipoli Peninsula, but recovered and served continuously for the remainder of the war and into the Russian Civil War. In 1939 aged 57, he again volunteered for military service and spent three more years at sea, commanding convoys during the Battle of the Atlantic.
