Eric Mezzalira
Eric Mezzalira (born March 10, 1994) is a professional Canadian football linebacker who is a free agent. He was most recently a member of the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL). University career Mezzalira played U Sports football for the McMaster Marauders from 2014 to 2017. Professional career Calgary Stampeders Mezzalira was selected to the Ontario Regional Combine where he earned an invitation to the CFL National Combine. He scored the highest result on the Wonderlic at the combine. Mezzalira was drafted in the second round, 17th overall, by the Calgary Stampeders in the 2018 CFL Draft and signed with the team on May 14, 2018. He dressed in his first professional game in the team's 2018 season opener on June 16, 2018 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Linebacker
Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. They are the "middle ground" of defenders, playing closer to the line of scrimmage than the defensive backs (secondary), but farther back than the defensive linemen. 2018 Calgary Stampeders Season
The 2018 Calgary Stampeders season was the 61st season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 84th overall. The Stampeders qualified for the playoffs for the 14th straight year and finished in first place in the West Division for the third straight year. They also appeared in the Grey Cup for the third consecutive season, but after two championship losses, the Stampeders claimed victory in the 106th Grey Cup game, the franchise's eighth victory overall. 2020 CFL Season
The 2020 CFL season would have been the 67th season of modern-day Canadian football. Officially, it would have been the 63rd season of the Canadian Football League. It was originally scheduled to begin on June 11; on April 7, the start of the season was delayed to begin no sooner than July due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. The CFL planned to obtain financial assistance from the federal government. In May, the CFL delayed the season to no sooner than September, and announced that the Grey Cup was to be played as a home advantage game rather than as a neutral site game in Regina, Saskatchewan, as originally planned. In July, the CFL announced plans to tentatively play all games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as a "hub city". 2019 Calgary Stampeders Season
The 2019 Calgary Stampeders season was the 62nd season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 85th overall. The Stampeders finished with a 12–6 record and hosted the West Semi-Final game in a year where they were also hosting the 107th Grey Cup. Having lost to the Blue Bombers team in the aforementioned playoff game, however, the Stampeders failed to repeat as Grey Cup champions in 2019, marking the first time since 2011 where the Stampeders failed to reach the West Division Final and only the second time since their 2008 Championship-Winning Season. Despite the loss in the opening round of the postseason, the Stampeders qualified for the playoffs for the 15th consecutive year with a week 15 win over the Toronto Argonauts coupled with a loss by the Ottawa Redblacks, the playoff berth being clinched on September 21, 2019.
