Eric Allan
Eric Allan (born 8 March 1940) is a British actor. His first film role was in Peter Brook's 1968 film '' Tell Me Lies'', based on the play '' US'' in which Allan had appeared the previous year. For 24 years from 1997 to 2021 he played the part of farm worker Bert Fry in the long running BBC Radio soap opera The Archers. Peter Brook
Peter Stephen Paul Brook (21 March 1925 – 2 July 2022) was an English theatre and film director. He worked first in England, from 1945 at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, from 1947 at the Royal Opera House, and from 1962 for the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC). With them, he directed the first English-language production in 1964 of ''Marat/Sade'' by Peter Weiss, which was transferred to Broadway in 1965 and won the Tony Award for Best Play, and Brook was named Best Director. He also directed films such as an iconic version of ''Lord of the Flies'' in 1963. He was based in France from the early 1970s on, where he founded an international theatre company, playing in developing countries, in an approach of great simplicity. He was often referred to as "our greatest living theatre director". ''US'' was a 1966 experimental theatre play for the Royal Shakespeare Company, created by a group that included Denis Cannan (writer), Michael Kustow (documentary), Sally Jacobs (design), Richard Peaslee (music), Adrian Mitchell (lyrics), Geoffrey Reeves (music director), Albert Hunt (associate director), Michael Stott (associate director) and director Peter Brook. The play deals with "British metropolitan attitudes" to the Vietnam War, rather than the facts of the war itself. The first half of the performance consists of "comic-strip…anti-Americanism", but after the interval the work considers aspects of the conflict as if taking place in London: "I want it to come here…" announces one character. This is achieved by having a player contemplate burning himself to death, in the manner of Buddhist monks in Saigon, on the streets of London. ''Bleak Moments'' is a 1971 British comedy-drama film by Mike Leigh in his directorial debut. Leigh's screenplay is based on a 1970 stage play at the Open Space Theatre, about the dysfunctional life of a young secretary.
