Eremas Wartoto
Eremas Wartoto is a Papua New Guinean businessman, based in Kokopo, PNG. He founded the airline Travel Air, based in Madang, PNG, and is part of the Sarakolok West Transport (SWT) Group, owned by Wartoto. Travel Air flies from Hoskins, Lae, Madang, Mt. Hagen, Port Moresby and Rabaul. Wartoto is currently in Australia and is the Chief Executive of Travel Car Australia Pty Ltd. Kokopo
Kokopo is the capital of East New Britain Province in Papua New Guinea. It is administered under Kokopo-Vunamami Urban LLG. The capital was moved from Rabaul in 1994 when the volcanoes Tavurvur and Vulcan erupted. As a result, the population of the town increased more than sixfold from 3,150 in 1990 to 20,262 in 2000. Kokopo was known as Herbertshöhe (''Herbert's Heights''), named in honour of Herbert, eldest son of German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, during the German New Guinea administration, which controlled the area between 1884 and formally until 1919. Madang
Madang (old German name: ''Friedrich-Wilhelmshafen'') is the capital of Madang Province and is a town with a population of 27,420 (in 2005) on the north coast of Papua New Guinea. It was first settled by the Germans in the 19th century. History Russian biologist Nicholai Miklukho-Maklai was probably the first European to visit the area. In 1871 he stayed at Astrolabe Bay south of present-day Madang for 15 months. He had a good relationship with the local communities before leaving, suffering from malaria. Paul Tiensten (born 1966) is a former Papua New Guinean politician and former National Alliance Member of Parliament for Pomio Open. Tiensten is currently serving a nine-year sentence for corruption. Tiensten holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Papua New Guinea and a Masters in Resources Law at the Center for Energy, Petroleum, Mineral Law and Policy, University of Dundee, Scotland. He served as a Director of Petroleum at the Department of Petroleum and Energy for the government of Papua New Guinea and was also a Project Manager for the World Bank funded Gas Development and Utilization Technical Assistance Project. Corruption In Papua New Guinea
Corruption is rife in Papua New Guinea (PNG). According to ''The Economist'', "PNG's governments are notorious for corruption, and ever run the risk of turning the state into a fully-fledged kleptocracy". Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index scores 180 countries according to the perceived corruption of the public sector and then ranks those countries by their score. A low score earns a high ranking, and signals a perception of a corrupt public sector. In the 2021 Index, Papua New Guinea scored 31 out of 100 possible and ranked 124 out of 180 countries; for comparison, the best score was 88 (ranked 1), and the worst score was 11 (ranked 180).
