Hallescher FC, formerly known as Hallescher FC Chemie, is a Football in Germany, German association football club based in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, Halle an der Saale, Saxony-Anhalt. The club currently plays in the Regionalliga, the fourth highest level in the German football league system. For many years, Halle had been in East Germany's highest league, the DDR-Oberliga, up-until the German reunification. However, like many other teams from the former East, it then suffered the effects of economic and demographic decline in the region in the 1990s and fell down to amateur leagues. Kurt-Wabbel-Stadion was a multi-purpose stadium in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It was used mostly for football matches and was the home of Hallescher FC until 2010. It had a capacity of 23,860. The stadium was opened in 1936 and was originally named after SA officer Horst Wessel, before it was renamed the Kurt-Wabbel-Stadion, in honour of Kurt Wabbel following the end of World War Two.
