Ercole Amante (Bembo)
''Ercole amante'' (''Hercules in Love'') is an 18th century Italian-language opera in five acts. It was composed in France in 1707 by Antonia Bembo with a libretto by Francesco Buti. Bembo reused Buti's libretto from Francesco Cavalli's 1662 Ercole amante, opera of the same name. The libretto is based on stories of Hercules from Sophocles's ''Women of Trachis'', Ovid's ''Metamorphoses'', Pseudo-Apollodorus's ''Bibliotheca (Apollodorus), Bibliotheca'', and Seneca the Younger, Seneca's ''Hercules Oetaeus''. The opera was first performed in Stuttgart in 2023 in a concert performance, concert version. The first staged production is scheduled for the Paris Opera in May 2026. Antonia Bembo
Antonia Padoani Bembo (c. 1640 – c. 1720) was an Italian composer and singer. Life She was born in Venice and died in Paris. She was the only daughter of Giacomo Padoani (1603–1666), a doctor, and Diana Paresco (1609–1676); she married the Venetian noble Lorenzo Bembo (1637–1703) in 1659. She had three children. In 1677, travelled with Francesco Corbetta (guitarist) to Paris. She moved to Paris before 1676, possibly to leave a bad marriage. There she sang for Louis XIV. Louis granted her a pension and housing at the Petite Union Chrétienne des Dames de Saint Chaumont, a religious community.Fontijn She was a contemporary of Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre and Barbara Strozzi.
