The City of Greater Bendigo is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the central part of the state. It covers an area of and, in August 2021, had a population of 121,470. It includes the city of Bendigo and the towns of Axedale, Elmore, Heathcote, Marong, Raywood and Strathfieldsaye. It was formed in 1994 from the amalgamation of the former City of Bendigo with the Borough of Eaglehawk, Shire of Strathfieldsaye, Shire of Huntly and parts of the Rural City of Marong and Shire of McIvor. It is the state's third largest economy base and is considered a service and infrastructure centre for north central Victoria. The city is surrounded by 40,000 hectares of regional, state and national parkland. Mia Mia is a locality of Central Victoria (state), Victoria, Australia, north of Melbourne and south of Bendigo, Victoria, Bendigo. It is largely an area of broadacre farms raising cattle and sheep. Sedgwick, Victoria
Sedgwick is a locality in the City of Greater Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. Facilities include a public hall that opened in 1958 and CFA Rural fire station. History Sedgwick was named "Upper Emu Creek" until 1901 when it was renamed as Sedgwick after British geologist Adam Sedgwick. The first freehold land was granted in 1854. In 1863 The Great Eastern Mine was founded in Sedgwick. Many of the miners lived in the area around the mine so there was a hotel called the Great Eastern and a store. It was the only mine in the district. A Methodist chapel opened on the 9th of April 1873 and was in use until 1920. In 1877 a water channel running from Malmsbury to Bendigo was completed, running through the southern and western sides of Sedgwick; it still exists today. In a public meeting in 1942, it was proposed that a bush fire brigade should be formed. Redesdale is a town in the City of Greater Bendigo and the Shire of Mount Alexander, Victoria, Australia. At the , Redesdale had a population of 240. History The Post Office opened on 22 March 1865. There are conflicting accounts about the origin of Redesdale's name. According to Thomas O'Callaghan's 1918 book "Names of Victorian Railways Stations", Redesdale is named after Lord Redesdale, while according to the website Victorian Places, Redesdale is named after Robert William Rede.
