Epideme
"Epideme" is the seventh episode of science fiction comedy series '' Red Dwarf VII'' and the 43rd in the series run. It was first broadcast on the British television channel BBC2 on 28 February 1997. Written by Paul Alexander and Doug Naylor, and directed by Ed Bye, the episode involves Lister contracting an intelligent, but deadly, virus. Plot The crew encounters an abandoned ship, the ''Leviathan'', which is buried in the middle of an ice planetoid. In it, they find the frozen body of Caroline Carmen, one of Lister's former crushes. She is taken on board the ''Starbug'', where the crew attempts to thaw her out, but they are unable to melt the ice. That night, Carmen defrosts of her own accord and turns out to be in an advanced state of decomposition. Dave Lister
David "Dave" Lister, commonly referred to simply as Lister, is a fictional character from the British science fiction situation comedy ''Red Dwarf'', portrayed by Craig Charles. Lister is characterised as a third-class technician (the lowest ranking crewman) on the mining ship ''Red Dwarf'' spending his time performing tasks under the hated supervision of Arnold Rimmer. In the series, he becomes marooned three million years into the future, but maintains a long-standing desire to return to Earth and start a farm on Fiji and open a hot dog and doughnut diner, preferably with the one true love of his life, Kristine Kochanski, a navigation officer of ''Red Dwarf''. Gary David Grant (born 18 June 1958), known professionally as Gary Martin, is a British actor who has been in the acting industry since the early 1980s. His first recorded acting credit is as a chauffeur in the television series ''Nobody's Perfect''. He has since gone on to perform in over 60 roles, either as a voice actor or actor. Martin is well known for his vocal range, and has recorded voiceovers for multiple American and British commercials and film trailers. "Beyond a Joke" is the sixth episode of science fiction sitcom ''Red Dwarf'' Series VII and the 42nd in the series' run. It was first broadcast on the British television channel BBC2 on 21 February 1997. The script was written by Robert Llewellyn (who plays series regular Kryten) and Doug Naylor, and was directed by Ed Bye. Plot ''Starbug'' passes an old derelict spaceship, the SS ''Centauri'', which Kryten scavenges for supplies. He finds some live lobsters in stasis and brings them aboard to cook a fine supper. Douglas Rodger Naylor (born 31 December 1955) is an English comedy writer, science fiction writer, director and television producer. Life and career Naylor was born in Manchester, Lancashire, England, and studied at Chetham's School of Music and the University of Liverpool. In the mid-1980s Naylor created and wrote two comedy sketch shows for BBC Radio 4 entitled ''Cliché'' and ''Son of Cliché'', as well as two sitcoms,''Wrinkles'' and ''Wally Who?'' for the same station. Edward Richard Morrison Bye (born 12 June 1955) is a British film and TV producer and director. He directed the episodes of the science-fiction sitcom ''Red Dwarf'' from Series I-IV and VII-VIII. Early life Ed Bye is the son of Royal Marine Colonel Francis Clifford Edward Bye, OBE, of Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire, and of Twickenham, Ed Bye attended Mount House School in the late 1960s, where he was known as a swimmer. Robert Norman Davis (born 14 March 1945), best known by his stage name, Jasper Carrott, is an English comedian, actor and television presenter. Early life Born in Shaftmoor Lane, Acocks Green, in Birmingham, Carrott was educated at Acocks Green Primary School and Moseley Grammar School. He worked as a trainee buyer at a city centre department store, the Beehive, with schoolmate Bev Bevan. He acquired the nickname Jasper aged nine, and added the surname Carrott when he was 17.
