Ephraim Potter (1855–1925) was an American architect from Glens Falls, New York. A number of his works are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Ephraim Potter House, Concord MA
Ephraim (; he, ''ʾEp̄rayīm'', in pausa: ''ʾEp̄rāyīm'') was, according to the Book of Genesis, the second son of Joseph ben Jacob and Asenath. Asenath was an Ancient Egyptian woman whom Pharaoh gave to Joseph as wife, and the daughter of Potipherah, a priest of ʾĀwen. Ephraim was born in Egypt before the arrival of the Israelites from Canaan. The Book of Numbers lists three sons of Ephraim: Shuthelah, Beker, and Tahan. However, 1 Chronicles 7 lists eight sons, including Ezer and Elead, who were killed in an attempt to steal cattle from the locals. After their deaths he had another son, Beriah. He was the ancestor of Joshua, son of Nun ben Elishama, the leader of the Israelite tribes in the conquest of Canaan. According to the biblical narrative, Jeroboam, who became the first king of the Northern Kingdom of Israel, was also from the house of Ephraim. Glens Falls is a city in Warren County, New York, United States and is the central city of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 14,700 at the 2010 census. The name was given by Colonel Johannes Glen, the falls referring to a large waterfall in the Hudson River at the southern end of the city. Glens Falls is a city in the southeastern corner of Warren County, surrounded by the town of Queensbury to the north, east, and west, and by the Hudson River and Saratoga County to the south. Bemis Eye Sanitarium Complex
Bemis Eye Sanitarium Complex is a historic sanatorium complex located at Glens Falls, Warren County, New York. The complex was built between about 1893 and 1902 and consists of eight contributing structures. The architect was Ephraim Potter. There are five boarding houses built for the sanitarium, as well as two previously existing residences and a carriage house that were converted for sanitarium use in the 1890s. Dr. Edward Herbert Bemis built the complex for the treatment of eye diseases. The sanitarium closed after his death in 1901. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. At least two of the buildings of the complex, on Sherman Avenue, were later re-purposed as the Sherman Square Apartments. These buildings suffered a severe fire on May 8, 2014. The interior was gutted, but the exterior was salvaged, and the apartment complex was expected to be eventually re-opened. Glens Falls High School, abbreviated GFHS, is a high school serving the Glens Falls City School District and Glens Falls Common School District. It is located at 10 Quade Street near Sherman Avenue in Glens Falls, New York. History The high school was formerly located at 421-433 Glen Street. That building, designed by local architect Ephraim Potter, currently an apartment complex, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The school has used an 'Indian' mascot since September 25, 1941 but replacing the Native American mascot with a non-discriminatory icon following an order issued by the New York State Education Department in November 2022.
