Eosinopteryx
''Eosinopteryx'' is an extinct genus of theropod dinosaurs known to the Late Jurassic epoch of China. It contains a single species, ''Eosinopteryx brevipenna''. Some researchers consider it a junior synonym of ''Anchiornis.'' Discovery and naming ''E. brevipenna'' is known from a single fossil specimen recovered from the Tiaojishan Formation of western Liaoning Province, China, which has been dated to the late Jurassic period (Oxfordian (stage), Oxfordian age), about 160 million years ago. The name ''Eosinopteryx'' is derived from the Greek ''eos'' ("daybreak" or "dawn"), the Latin ''Sinae'' ("Chinese"), and the Greek ''pteryx'' ("feather"). Anchiornithidae
Anchiornithidae is a family of small Paraves, paravian dinosaurs. Anchiornithids have been classified at varying positions in the paravian tree, with some scientists classifying them as a distinct family, a basal subfamily of Troodontidae, members of Archaeopterygidae, or an assemblage of dinosaurs that are an evolutionary grade within Avialae or Paraves. Description Anchiornithids share many general features with other paravians, including early avialans. They were small and lightly-built feathered carnivores, similar in biology to ''Archaeopteryx'', early Dromaeosauridae, dromaeosaurids like ''Microraptor'', and particularly troodontids. ''Archaeopteryx'' (; ), sometimes referred to by its German name, "" ( ''Primeval Bird'') is a genus of bird-like dinosaurs. The name derives from the ancient Greek (''archaîos''), meaning "ancient", and (''ptéryx''), meaning "feather" or "wing". Between the late 19th century and the early 21st century, ''Archaeopteryx'' was generally accepted by palaeontologists and popular reference books as the oldest known bird (member of the group Avialae). Tiaojishan Formation
The Tiaojishan Formation is a geological formation in Hebei and Liaoning, People's Republic of China, dating to the middle-late Jurassic period (Bathonian-Oxfordian (stage), Oxfordian stages). It is known for its Lagerstätte, exceptionally preserved fossils, including those of Paleobotany, plants, insects and vertebrates. It is made up mainly of pyroclastic rock interspersed with basic volcanic and sedimentary rocks. Previously, the Tiaojishan Formation was grouped together with the underlying Haifanggou Formation (also known as the Jiulongshan Formation) as a single "Lanqi Formation." Troodontid
Troodontidae is a clade of bird-like theropod dinosaurs from the Late Jurassic to Late Cretaceous. During most of the 20th century, troodontid fossils were few and incomplete and they have therefore been allied, at various times, with many dinosaurian lineages. More recent fossil discoveries of complete and articulated specimens (including specimens which preserve feathers, eggs, embryos, and complete juveniles), have helped to increase understanding about this group. Paraves
Paraves are a widespread group of theropod dinosaurs that originated in the Middle Jurassic period. In addition to the extinct dromaeosauridae, dromaeosaurids, troodontidae, troodontids, Anchiornithidae, anchiornithids, and possibly the scansoriopterygidae, scansoriopterygids, the group also contains the Avialae, avialans, which include diverse extinct taxa as well as the over 11,000 species of living birds.
