Enver Ahmed
Enver Ahmed (1909–1992), pen name Ahmed, was an Indian cartoonist and creator of Chandu, the turbanned, paunchy central character of a popular cartoon strip in the '' Hindustan Times''. Life and career Ahmed was born in Rawalpindi (then in India) in 1909 and graduated in science from the Government College in Lahore. He worked in a sugar mill before joining the advertising section of The Pioneer in Lucknow. His talent was spotted by Desmond Young, the editor, and he became the paper's cartoonist. Since the Pioneer was a pro-British paper, Ahmed ultimately decided to move on to The Dawn, where too he was not at ease with the paper's politics, which supported the Muslim League. In 1946, Ahmed moved to the ''Hindustan Times'', where he succeeded the cartoonist Shankar. Accortding to cartoonist Kamal Sarkar, the years between 1946 and 1950 saw Ahmed at his peak, a period when he drew with gusto, and his cartoons served a political purpose. ''Hindustan Times'' is an Indian English-language daily newspaper based in Delhi. It is the flagship publication of HT Media, an entity controlled by the KK Birla family, and is owned by Shobhana Bhartia. It was founded by Sunder Singh Lyallpuri, founder-father of the Akali movement and the Shiromani Akali Dal, in Delhi and played integral roles in the Indian independence movement as a nationalist daily. ''Hindustan Times'' is one of the largest newspapers in India by circulation. According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, it has a circulation of 993,645 copies as of November 2017. The Pioneer (Indian Newspaper)
''The Pioneer'' is an English-language daily newspaper in India. It is published from multiple locations in India, including Delhi. It is the second oldest English-language newspaper in India still in circulation after ''The Times of India''. In 2010, The Pioneer launched its Hindi version in Lucknow. Author Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936), in his early 20s, worked at the newspaper office in Allahabad as an assistant editor from November 1887 to March 1889. In July 1933, ''The Pioneer'' was sold to a syndicate and moved from Allahabad to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, at which time the ''Pioneer Mail and India Weekly News'' ceased publication. The newspaper remained a primarily Lucknow-based paper until 1990, when it was purchased by the Thapar Group, under L. M. Thapar, who made it a national newspaper, published from Delhi, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Kochi, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradun and Ranchi. Thapar sold the paper to its editor Chandan Mitra in 1998. Desmond Young (born March 6, 2000, in Frederiction, New Brunswick) is a Canadian curler from Banff, Alberta. He is currently the third of the Alberta Golden Bears men's curling team in university curling and on the World Curling Tour. Young will represent Canada at the 2021 World Junior Curling Championships in Beijing, China. Curling career Young made his Canadian national championship debut at the 2019 New Holland Canadian Juniors after defeating Evan Van Amsterdam 8–7 in the Alberta junior provincial final. At the Canadian Juniors, Young led his rink of Dustin Mikush, Jacob Libbus, and Gabriel Dyck to a 3–3 record in pool play before defeating Ontario's Samuel Steep in a tiebreaker. All-India Muslim League
The All-India Muslim League (AIML) was a political party established in Dhaka in 1906 when a group of prominent Muslim politicians met the Viceroy of British India, Lord Minto, with the goal of securing Muslim interests on the Indian subcontinent. The party arose out of the need for the political representation of Muslims in British India, especially during the Indian National Congress-sponsored massive Hindu opposition to the 1905 partition of Bengal. During the 1906 annual meeting of the All India Muslim Education Conference held in Israt Manzil Palace, Dhaka, the Nawab of Dhaka, Khwaja Salimullah, forwarded a proposal to create a political party which would protect the interests of Muslims in British India. Sir Mian Muhammad Shafi, a prominent Muslim leader from Lahore, suggested the political party be named the 'All-India Muslim League'.
