Entoto
Mount Entoto () is the highest peak on the Entoto Mountains, which overlooks the city of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. It reaches 3,200 meters above sea level. Overview It is a historical place where Emperor Menelik II resided and built his palace, when he came from Ankober and founded Addis Ababa. It is considered a sacred mountain and has many monasteries. Mount Entoto is also the location of a number of celebrated churches, including Saint Raguel and Saint Mary. The mountain is densely covered by eucalyptus trees that were imported from Australia during the reign of Menelik II, and mostly planted during Emperor Haile Selassie's reign. Thus, it is sometimes referred to as the "lung of Addis Ababa". The forest on the mountain is an important source of firewood for the city. It was also a source of building material in earlier times. Entoto Observatory
The Entoto Observatory Space Science Research Center (EORC) is an astronomical observatory station located in Mount Entoto, close to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The centre was initiated during the establishment of the Ethiopian Space Science Society (ESSS) and officially began operations in 2012. The Board of Directors appointed Dr. Solomon Belay Tessema as the first Scientific Director in May 2012. The Ethiopian space program was born from EORC, and the strong leadership and commitment of Dr. Solomon Belay Tessema were the reasons for its creation. He has established graduate programs in four areas astronomy and astrophysics, space science, Remote sensing and Geodesy affiliated with AAU with a limited budget and resources. Dr. Solomon is the father of the space program in Ethiopia in particular East African in general. Entoto Natural Park
Entoto Natural Park (Amharic: እንጦጦ ፓርክ) is a natural park located northeast of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the southeastern slopes of Mount Entoto, covering an area of 1,300 hectares. It is situated at an altitude of between 2,600 and 3,100 meters. Overview Entoto Natural Park had limited infrastructure and remained underdeveloped. The Entoto Mountains or Entoto Hills (Amharic: ) is a mountainous region in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It lies immediately north of Addis Ababa, in the Ethiopian Highlands and central region of Ethiopia. A prominent peak at the top of the Entoto Mountains is Mount Entoto. It served as Menelik II's capital before the founding of Addis Ababa. Ankober
Ankober (), formerly known as Ankobar, is a town in central Ethiopia. Located in the North Shewa Zone (Amhara), North Shewa Zone of the Amhara Region, it's perched on the eastern escarpment of the Ethiopian Highlands at an elevation of about . It is to the east of Debre Birhan and about northeast of Addis Ababa. Ankober was formerly the capital of the Ethiopian kingdom of Shewa founded by Yekuno Amlak in the thirteenth century. Buildings that survive from the Shewa period include the Kidus Mikael Church, built by Sahle Selassie. The Ethiopian Highlands (also called the Abyssinian Highlands) is a rugged mass of mountains in Ethiopia in Northeast Africa. It forms the largest continuous area of its elevation in the continent, with little of its surface falling below , while the summits reach heights of up to .
