The Scottish Government Economy Directorates () are a group of Directorates of the Scottish Government. They were rebranded as the Economy Directorates in July 2016, having previously been reorganised in December 2010 and then in June 2014. In July 2021, a further re-organisation led to the creation of the Net Zero Directorates, with Agriculture & Rural Economy, Marine Scotland, Energy & Climate Change, Environment & Forestry, Transport Scotland, Forestry and Land Scotland and Scottish Forestry moving to the new Directorate General. The individual Directorates within the DG (Director-General) Economy family (the Economy Directorates) report to the Director-General, Gregor Irwin. Directorates Of The Scottish Government
The work of the Scottish Government is carried out by Directorates, each headed by a Director. The Directorates are grouped into a number of Directorates-General families, each headed by a Director-General. However, the individual Directorates are the building blocks of the system. The Directorates are further broken down into 'Divisions' and then by Units (also sometimes referred to as Branches) and finally by Teams. Divisions usually consist of 25-50 people. There is no direct correspondence between the political responsibilities of the Minister (government), Ministers in the Scottish Government and the Directorates, although in some cases there is considerable overlap. Climate Change In Scotland
Climate change in Scotland is already causing a range of impacts on Scotland. 2022 was Scotland’s warmest year on record with the temperature reaching 35°C in the Scottish Borders in July. Climate change has already changed timings of spring events such as leaf unfolding, bird migration and egg-laying. Severe effects are likely to occur on biodiversity. The mitigation of climate change and adaptation is a matter for the devolved Scottish Parliament. Greenhouse gas emissions Scotland's greenhouse gas emissions only accounted for 10% of the UK's emissions in 2003, when figures were published. 37% of Scottish emissions are in energy supply and 17% in transport. Between 1990 and 2007, Scottish net emissions have reduced by 18.7%.
