Ensenada
Ensenada ("inlet") is a city in Ensenada Municipality, Baja California, situated on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. Located on Bahía de Todos Santos, the city had a population of 279,765 in 2018, making it the third-largest city in Baja California. The city is an important international trade center and home to the Port of Ensenada, the second-busiest port in Mexico. Ensenada is a major tourist destination, owing to its warm climate and proximity to the Pacific Ocean, and is commonly known as ''La Cenicienta del Pacífico'' ("The Cinderella of the Pacific"). Ensenada was founded in 1882, when the small community of Rancho Ensenada de Santos was made the regional capital for the northern partition of the Baja California Territory. The Port of Ensenada is a marine freight and cruise terminal in Ensenada, Baja California. This deepwater port lies in Bahia de Todos Santos. Ships arrive from major ports in Asia, North America, and South America. The port accommodates cruise ships, bulk cargo, and container ships. The Port of Ensenada maintains specialized shipyards. It also supports commercial and sport fishing, pleasure craft, and marina areas. In 2010, the Port of Ensenada handled of cargo and 156 cruise ship calls—the latter figure down from a peak of 293 three years earlier. In 2011, it was Mexico's second-busiest port and the second-most-visited port-of-call for major cruise lines and pleasure boats. The Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Spanish: ''Catedral de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe'') is a Catholic church in Ensenada, Baja California serving as the headquarters of the Diocese of Ensenada since 2007. It was built from 1951 to 1984, in the Spanish Colonial style, and dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe. History In the 1940s, Msgr. Felipe Torres Hurtado, the head of the Apostolic Administration of Baja California, wanted to bring more people of the Franciscan order into Ensenada to improve the culture and religion of the area. The first Franciscans in Ensenada, Fr. Carlos Martinez, Fr. Guadalupe Parra, and Fr. Nicolás J. Tinney (an American) arrived in the city on December 2, 1947. They had the idea of building a sanctuary for Our Lady of Guadalupe and started to build one on June 12, 1951, when they placed the first stone under the supervision of Bishop . Baja California, officially the Free and Sovereign State of Baja California, is a state in Mexico. It is the northwesternmost of the 32 federal entities of Mexico. Before becoming a state in 1952, the area was known as the North Territory of Baja California (). Hotel Riviera Del Pacífico
The Hotel Riviera del Pacífico was a hotel located in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. It was one of the most prestigious and luxurious hotels in Mexico. History The hotel opened with great fanfare in 1930 but was not a real success until the early 1950s. It finally closed in 1964. Origins Prohibition sent North Americans south of their border in search of entertainment and alcohol, developing first Tijuana, then Rosarito, and finally Ensenada as tourist destinations. The Ensenada Beach Club, S.A. was formed with the goal to build a resort in Ensenada. After the Club dissolved in 1926, a number of its members joined a new company, Club Internationale, S.A., to continue the project, initially called the Hotel Playa de Ensenada (Ensenada Beach Hotel). Architect Gordon F. Mayer was hired to design the hotel; Alfredo Ramos Martínez was hired to do its murals.
