Ensbury Park
Ensbury Park is a mainly residential suburb of Bournemouth, in Dorset, England. It includes the housing estate of Slades Farm and lies within the ward district of Northbourne and Redhill. Initial development Ensbury Park takes its name from the Saxon hamlet of Ensbury, a separate area altogether which lay a mile or so to the north. This hamlet, just east of Kinson, has now been more or less subsumed into the postwar suburb of Northbourne but in the first half of the twentieth century, Ensbury Manor and Ensbury Farm constituted the borders of what later became the Ensbury Park district. In the 1920s Ensbury Park boasted a racecourse, which also served as an aerodrome. For several years it was known as “Bournemouth Aerodrome” and was the venue for Air Race Meetings, though a series of fatal crashes at the Whitsun meet in 1927 led to its decline and eventual sale for housing development. The ''Pevsner Architectural Guides'' are four series of guide books to the architecture of the British Isles. ''The Buildings of England'' series was begun in 1945 by the art historian Sir Nikolaus Pevsner, with its forty-six original volumes published between 1951 and 1974. Morebus (stylized as more) is a trading name of bus operator Go South Coast primarily used in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, and the wider Dorset area. Operations in the area were formerly part of the ''Wilts & Dorset'' brand, phased out from 2012 onwards. Glenmoor School
Glenmoor Academy is a secondary school for girls located in the Ensbury Park area of Bournemouth in the English county of Dorset. The school was first established in 1877 as Winton British School, educating boys and girls up to age of 13. In 1911 the school relocated to a site on Coronation Avenue which was split into Winton School (boys) and Moordown School (girls). Following a major reorganisation of schools in the area in 1957, The secondary section of Moordown School relocated to the current site on Beswick Avenue and was renamed Glenmoor School. Winton Arts & Media College
Winton Academy is an 11-16 boys secondary school located in Bournemouth, Dorset, England. By December 2018, a total of 774 boys were enrolled at the school. The current Head Teacher, Leon Lima, is the head of both Winton Academy and the separate girls' school, Glenmoor, both part of the United Learning trust. History The school was founded in 1877 and was expanded on a restricted site until 1995 when it moved to its present site. The original "Main School" was situated on Coronation Avenue in Moordown. Ensbury Park Racecourse
Ensbury Park Racecourse was a short lived horse racing and greyhound racing course in Bournemouth between the Kinson and Ensbury Park areas. Origins A new 88 acre aerodrome was constructed near Bournemouth at the end of 1917. The Royal Flying Corps together with a Wireless Telephony School moved in and it became known as RFC Winton. The aerodrome was vacated after the war by the RAF and the site became used for civil aviation from May 1919. A grandstand and racecourse was financed by the Ensbury Park (Bournemouth) Racecourse Company Ltd and built by Sir Robert McAlpine & Sons in late 1924-early 1925 on a significant portion of the airfield. Northbourne, Bournemouth
