Enrico Garozzo
Enrico Garozzo (; born 21 June 1989 in Catania, Sicily) is an Italian right-handed épée fencer and 2016 Olympic silver medalist. Garozzo is an athlete of the Centro Sportivo Carabinieri. Biography Garozzo won a silver medal at the 2006 Cadets World Fencing Championship in Taebaek, then took the gold at the 2008 Junior World Fencing Championship in his childhood city Acireale. Amongst seniors, he made his first Fencing World Cup podium in 2010 with a third place in the Grand Prix de Berne. This was followed in the 2011–12 season by a second place at the Jockey Club Argentino. In the 2012–13 season he placed third in the Heidenheimer Pokal and in the 2013 Mediterranean Games at Mersin. He advanced to the quarter-finals in the 2013 European Championships at Budapest before being stopped by eventual silver medallist Daniel Jerent. Foil (fencing)
A foil is one of the three weapons used in the sport of fencing, all of which are metal. It is flexible, rectangular in cross section, and weighs under a pound. As with the épée, points are only scored by contact with the tip, which, in electrically scored tournaments, is capped with a spring-loaded button to signal a touch. Daniele Garozzo (; born 4 August 1992) is an Italian right-handed foil fencer. Garozzo is a 2022 team European champion, two-time individual European champion, and four-time team world champion. A two-time Olympian, Garozzo is a 2021 individual Olympic silver medalist and 2016 individual Olympic champion. He is the younger brother of Italian épée fencer Enrico Garozzo. Career Garozzo won the 2008 Cadet World Championships at home in Acireale, then took a silver medal in the 2011 and 2012 Junior World Championships. 2014–15 Fencing World Cup
The 44th FIE Fencing World Cup began in October 2014 and concluded in July 2015 at the 2015 World Fencing Championships held in Moscow. Season overview This edition was the first to feature the new Grand Prix format, consisting in nine events, three in each weapon, men and women fencing together. World Cup and Grand Prix competitions were spread over ten months instead of six. The calendar overhaul was designed to allow more time for the athletes to train and rest as well as to increase media visibility. The season saw the opening of the qualifying path for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The 2013 Mediterranean Games ( tr, 2013 Akdeniz Oyunları), officially known as the XVII Mediterranean Games ( tr, XVII Akdeniz Oyunları) and commonly known as Mersin 2013, was an international multi-sport event held from 20 to 30 June 2013 in Mersin, Turkey.
