Enrico Credendino
Enrico Credendino (born 21 January 1963) is an officer of the Italian Navy. He was appointed Chief of the Italian Navy in November 2021. He joined the Navy in 1980 and attended the Italian Naval Academy. He commanded the patrol vessel ''Spica'', the ''Maestrale''-class frigate ''Maestrale'' and the ''Durand de la Penne''-class missile destroyer ''Francesco Mimbelli''. Upon promotion to rear admiral (lower half) on 1 July 2011 he was appointed Deputy Commander of front Line Naval Forces and Deputy Commander of Amphibious Force and Commander of the Italian Naval Task Group. From September 2013 he was Head of Plans and Policy Department at the Italian Navy General Staff. He was promoted to rear admiral on 1 July 2014. On 18 May 2015 he was appointed as Operation Commander for European Union Naval Force Mediterranean. He served as Commander Schools Command from March 2020 to July 2021. Durand De La Penne-class Destroyer
The ''Durand de la Penne'' class are two guided-missile destroyers operated by the Italian Navy. The design is an enlarged version of the , updated with diesel and gas turbine CODOG machinery and modern sensors. Four ships were planned but the second pair were cancelled when Italy joined the Horizon project. Origins This class is named after a famous naval diver who served in Italy's Royal Navy during World War II, Luigi Durand de la Penne. He, together with other members of X MAS made the most successful human torpedo mission, damaging the British battleships and in Alexandria, December 1941, with SLCs 'Maiale'. These new ships were meant as very advanced destroyers, with an improvement over the previous types in almost every aspect of design. Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone is an Italian naval officer, currently serving as Chief of the Defense Staff since 19 October 2021. Prior to his assumption, he served as the Chief of Staff of the Italian Navy from 21 June 2019 to 19 October 2021, and as commander of the Joint Operations Command, and the Joint Special Forces Operations Headquarters. ''Francesco Mimbelli'' (D 561) is the second ship of the Durand de la Penne-class destroyer of the Italian Navy. Development The ''Durand de Le Penne-''class are escort and combat class ships, able to operate in every combat condition, and especially devised to survive to heavy missile and aircraft attacks. Its construction is made almost totally with steel; the structure is a continuous deck with a low, large stern, to accommodate the helicopter force. The fore hull is very pointed, with a very pronounced sea-cutter structure. The superstructure consists of two blocks, relatively low and wide, both with a high, antenna mast with a triangular cross-section for all the electronic. Frigate
A frigate () is a type of warship. In different eras, the roles and capabilities of ships classified as frigates have varied somewhat. The name frigate in the 17th to early 18th centuries was given to any full-rigged ship built for speed and maneuverability, intended to be used in scouting, escort and patrol roles. The term was applied loosely to ships varying greatly in design. In the second quarter of the 18th century, the 'true frigate' was developed in France. This type of vessel was characterised by possessing only one armed deck, with an unarmed deck below it used for berthing the crew.
