Enric Garriga I Trullols
Enric Garriga i Trullols (May 31, 1926 – November 17, 2011) was a Spanish Catalan independentist and activist for the Occitan Nation. Trullols served as the founder and president of several Catalan organizations, including the Cercle d'Agermanament Occitano-Català (CAOC) and the Institut de Projecció Exterior de la Cultura Catalana (IPECC). Trullols began his career as a chemical engineer. He participated in the Congreso de Cultura Catalana from 1975 to 1977. Trullols became further involved with the Catalan independence movement when he joined the Socialists' Party of Catalonia in preparation for the 1977 elections. In the mid-1970s, Trullois co-founded the Institut de Projecció Exterior de la Cultura Catalana (IPECC), and later served as the institute's president until his death in 2011. Under Trullois, the IPECC spearheaded the construction of monuments to Catalan national heroes around the world, including Belgium, Germany and Argentina. In 1977, Trullois founded the ... Val D'Aran
Aran (; ; ) (previously officially called in Occitan Val d'Aran, Catalan: ''Vall d'Aran'', Spanish: ''Valle de Arán'') is an administrative entity (formerly considered a comarca) in Lleida, Catalonia, Spain, consisting of the Aran Valley, in area, in the Pyrenees mountains, in the northwestern part of the province of Lleida. This valley constitutes the only contiguous part of Catalonia located on the northern side of the Pyrenees. Hence, this valley holds the only Catalan rivers to flow into the Atlantic Ocean (for the same reason, the region is characterized by an Atlantic climate, instead of a Mediterranean one). The Garonne river flows through Aran from its source on the Pla de Beret (Beret Flat) near the Port de la Bonaigua. Occitan People
The Occitans ( oc, occitans) are a Romance-speaking ethnic group originating in the historical region of Occitania (southern France, northeastern Spain, and northwestern Italy). They have been also called Gascons, Provençals, and Auvergnats.The Occitan members of the Order of Malta were grouped into two tongues, of Provence and Auvergne. The Occitan language is still used to varying levels by between 100,000 and 800,000 speakers in southern France and northern Italy. Since 2006, the Occitan language is recognized as one of the official languages in Catalonia, an autonomous region of Spain. The Occitans are concentrated in Occitania, but also in big urban centres in neighbouring regions: Lyon, Paris, Turin, and Barcelona. Aranese Dialect
Aranese ( oc, aranés) is a standardized form of the Pyrenean Gascon variety of the Occitan language spoken in the Val d'Aran, in northwestern Catalonia close to the Spanish border with France, where it is one of the three official languages beside Catalan and Spanish. In 2010, it was declared the third official language in Catalonia by the Parliament of Catalonia. The official names of towns in Val d'Aran are Occitan; for example, the Occitan name ''Vielha'' is used on maps and road signs instead of the Catalan and Spanish ''Viella''. Occitania
Occitania ( oc, Occitània , , or ) is the historical region in Western and Southern Europe where the Occitan language was historically spoken and where it is sometimes still used as a second language.
