Enock Ondego
Enock Ondego (21 February 1930 – 26 February 2023) was a Kenyan songwriter, singer, author, and founder of The Mwakigwena Choir Group and most notable for his biography, ''The Life Of Mzee Ondego'', published by the Kwani trust, and his two songs: ''Wimbo huu ni wimbo wa historia'' (This is a song of history) and ''Kenya ni nchi ya ajabu'' (Kenya is a wonderful country). Mwakigwena Choir used to perform for the then president Jomo Kenyatta in the late 1970s. Early life Enock Ondego was born in Mazigolo, South Maragoli in Vihiga County in 1930, and completed his elementary and high school at Kaimosi. Career When he was 17, Ondego started teaching in a local primary school in an attempt to support his family, as he was the eldest son. Vihiga
Vihiga is a town in Kenya located on the eastern side of the Kakamega Forest. Geography The town is located along the Kisumu- Kakamega highway, five kilometres north of the equator. Vihiga bears the same name as its county, Vihiga County. Vihiga municipality had a population of 118,696 according to the 2009 census and 95,292 in the 2019 census, a decrease of 23,404, 11%. Vihiga municipality has six wards; two of them (Central Maragoli and Wamuluma) belong to Vihiga Constituency while the remaining four wards (Chavakali, Izawa, Lyaduywa and North Maragoli) are part of the Sabatia Constituency. The shilling (; abbreviation: KSh; ISO 4217, ISO code: KES) is the currency of Kenya. It is divided into 100 cents. The Central Bank of Kenya Act cap 491, mandated the printing and minting of the Kenyan shilling currency. Kapenguria Six
The Kapenguria Six – Bildad Kaggia, Kung'u Karumba, Jomo Kenyatta, Fred Kubai, Paul Ngei, and Achieng' Oneko – were six leading Kenyan nationalists who were arrested in 1952, tried at Kapenguria in 1952–53, and imprisoned thereafter in Northern Kenya. Prelude Evelyn Baring was the new Governor, who arrived in Kenya on 30 September 1952. After the European invasion, large amounts of Kenya's best land were alienated for exclusive white use. Kenyans were allowed to remain as tenant farmers ('squatters') on land they had previously owned or newly cultivated; their terms of service steadily worsened. Kenya Broadcasting Corporation
Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) is the state-run media organisation of Kenya. It broadcasts in English and Swahili, as well as in most local languages of Kenya. The corporation was launched as a radio service in 1928 when Kenya was a British colony, making it the first radio station in Kenya. The radio station was launched as the East African Broadcasting Corporation (EABC) which relayed BBC News. In 1964, when Kenya became independent, and the corporation's name was changed to Voice of Kenya. In 1989, the Kenyan parliament reverted the corporation's name back to Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). During the rule of president Daniel arap Moi, KBC became the mouthpiece of the government.
