Eni Orlandi
Eni de Lourdes Puccinelli Orlandi is a Brazilian researcher with great influence in French Discourse Analysis, being the one to bring it to Brazil by translating to Portuguese Michel Pêcheux's books and articles. She is a researcher at Laboratório de Estudos Urbanos - Unicamp (Laboratory of Urban Studies of the University of Campinas), professor and coordinator of the Science Program of the Universidade do Vale da Linguagem do Sapucaí and professor of the University of Campinas. She is also a researcher 1A at Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq). Michel Pêcheux
Michel Pêcheux (1938–10 December 1983) was a French linguist and philosopher. He is best known for his theoretical, experimental and practical contributions to the field of discourse analysis, starting in the late 1960s. Career Michel Pêcheux studied philosophy at École normale supérieure (ENS) between 1959-1963 under Louis Althusser. In 1966, he started his research career in the Department of Social Psychology of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique. While at ENS, Pêcheux became involved with the journal Cahiers pour l'Analyse, where he began developing a marxist approach to discourse analysis. In all of his contributions to the Cahiers, Pêcheux used the pseudonym "Thomas Herbert". He is the founder of French Discourse Analysis in which he combined concepts from historical materialism, linguistics and psychoanalysis, inspired by Louis Althusser, Ferdinand de Saussure and Jacques Lacan. Discourse is a generalization of the notion of a conversation to any form of communication. Discourse is a major topic in social theory, with work spanning fields such as sociology, anthropology, continental philosophy, and discourse analysis.
