''English Freakbeat, Volume 1'' is a compilation album in the English Freakbeat series, featuring recordings that were released decades earlier, in the mid-1960s. Release data The album was released as an LP in 1988 by AIP Records (as #AIP-10039) and as a CD in 1992 (as #AIP-CD-1039). Vinyl-only tracks and CD bonus tracks The ''English Freakbeat'' LPs and CDs have most tracks in common, although some of the LP tracks were not included on the CDs; also, the CD bonus tracks are not always at the end of the album. Thus, for clarity, we have shown tracks for both editions of the album, with vinyl-only tracks and CD bonus tracks indicated. Notes on the tracks The following information is taken mostly from the CD liner notes. The Groundhogs released a dozen albums as a progressive blues band between 1968 and 1976 without gaining deserved stardom, though that incarnation of the band was not started until 1967. Beat music, British beat, or Merseybeat is a British popular music Music genre, genre that developed around Liverpool in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The genre melded influences from British rock and roll, British and Music of the United States, American rock and roll, rhythm and blues, skiffle, traditional pop, and music hall. Romford is a large List of places in London, town in east London, east London, England, located northeast of Charing Cross. Christopher Frederick Andrews (born 15 October 1942) is a British-German singer-songwriter and producer whose musical career started in the late 1950s. His biggest hits as a solo artist include "To Whom It Concerns", " Yesterday Man" (a UK no. 3) and " Pretty Belinda". The Sorrows
The Sorrows are a rock band formed in 1963 in Coventry, Warwickshire, England, by Pip Whitcher, and were part of the British beat boom of the 1960s. They were a fixture in the English mod scene and are sometimes referred to as freakbeat. Page One Records, established in 1966, was the UK independent record label, owned by the producer/manager, Larry Page. They were involved in a court case in July 1967 with The Troggs. 9681 WLR 157; 9673 All ER 822; (1967) 111 SJ 944 The label, which was co-founded by Page and Dick James, released hits from The Troggs, Vanity Fare and Plastic Penny, as well as numerous failed attempts by Page himself to obtain his own hit record.
