Engelsstaub
Engelsstaub (German for "Angel dust") is a German dark wave band, founded in 1992 by Mark Hofmann as a follow-up to his previous band Les Fleurs du Mal. Music Engelsstaub's music leans toward the neofolk/ neo-medieval end of the gothic spectrum, with stylistic similarities to bands like Ataraxia, The Dreamside and Faith and the Muse. Biography Hofmann began the band in 1992 as a solo project, but after releasing the 7" single ''Unholy'' was joined by his sister Silke Hofmann and Polish musician Janusz Zaremba, with whom he also co-founded the independent record label Apollyon. Dark Wave
Dark wave, or darkwave, is a music genre that emerged from the new wave and post-punk movement of the late 1970s. Dark wave compositions are largely based on minor key tonality and introspective lyrics and have been perceived as being dark, romantic and bleak, with an undertone of sorrow. Common features include the use of chordophones such as electric and acoustic guitar, violin and piano, as well as electronic instruments such as synthesizer, sampler and drum machine. Faith And The Muse
Faith and the Muse is an American rock band composed of Monica Richards and William Faith. Their music encompasses many genres, from folk music to dark wave, drawing on many sources and influences, notably Dead Can Dance. Richards is the primary singer, although Faith sings one or two tracks on each album. Their influences include dark alternative, gothic rock, Celtic, and other folk influences. Welsh and Irish mythology have often served as inspiration to many of the band's songs. Biography Monica Richards, a native of Washington, D.C., is a musician/artist/poet/scholar. The Dreamside
The Dreamside is a rock and metal band formed in the Netherlands in 1994. History The band was formed by Italian-Dutch singer Kemi Vita. The Dreamside recorded ''Pale Blue Lights'', the band's debut album, pretty much solo with assistance from various musicians; it was released in 1994 to excellent reviews. To tour the album Vita recruited guitarist Fried Bruggink, who became another core member of the band. The Dreamside's next release, ''Nuda Veritas'' (1995), consisted of several dance/techno remixes of songs from their debut album. In 1996 they released their second album, ''Apaika'', a glossier, more ethereal album than the first. Again reviews were excellent, and the Dreamside steadily became more popular in Europe. Neofolk
Neofolk, also known as apocalyptic folk, is a form of experimental music blending elements of folk and industrial music, which emerged in punk rock circles in the 1980s. Neofolk may either be solely acoustic or combine acoustic folk instrumentation with various other sounds. History Neofolk has its origins in 1960s musical groups who began taking influence from traditional folk music.
