Engel Reinhoudt
Engel Reinhoudt (26 January 1946 – 11 July 2020) was a Dutch musician and dialect writer. His nickname was 'de Zeêuwse Bard'. Reinhoudt was born in Wolphaartsdijk and later lived in ’s-Heerenhoek. Reinhoudt was best known for composing and singing songs in Zeelandic; a Dutch dialect spoken in the province Zeeland. His best known song is “ Een bolus bie de koffie” (Coffee with a bolus). He also wrote in a sub-Zeelandic dialect . Reinhoudt did furthermore many more things to keep the dialect of Zeeland alive. Reinhoudt published stories and poems and translated children's books. Among others he translated books of Miffy and Disney's Pete. He wrote a weekly column for the regional newspaper '' PZC''. He also had side projects involving the revitalization of local churches, such as the one in Ellewoudtsdijk that he helped become commonly known by the people in the country. Wolphaartsdijk
Wolphaartsdijk is a village in the Netherlands, located in the province Zeeland. Wolphaartsdijk is part of the municipality of Goes. In 2009 the village had 2109 inhabitants. History During the Middle Ages, Wolphaartsdijk, and Westkerke were located on the island Wolphaartsdijk. Due to floods on November 25, 1377, a large part of Westkerke was lost. The churches of Wolphaartsdijk and Oud-Sabbinge were destroyed by the Geuzen and Spanish forces in the 16th century. In 1809 the Polder, Wilhelminapolder was created, joining Wolphaartsdijk with Zuid-Beveland. During the beginning of the 1860s, a decision was made to build a new church since the old church was showing defects. The church, named "Nicolauskerk" (Church of Saint Nicholas) was finished in 1862. The North Sea flood of 1953 affected large areas of Wolphaartsdijk, killing 14 people. ’s-Heerenhoek
s-Heerenhoek is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Borsele, and lies about 12 km east of Middelburg. History The village was first mentioned around 1750 as 'S Heerenhoek, and "means corner of the lord". It is located in the north-eastern corner of the Borsselepolder which was ''poldered'' in 1616. The lords refers to the lord of Schenge Castle in 's-Heer-Arendskerke. 's-Heerenhoek developed after 1616 in a grid structure. In 1669, the village was devastated by fire and a new church was built in 1672. The Dutch Reformed church from 1672 was moved to Netherlands Open Air Museum in Arnhem between 1987 and 1988. The village developed into a Catholic area from the 1760s onwards. The Catholic St Willibrordus Church was built between 1873 and 1874 in Gothic Revival style and has a tall tower. Zeelandic ( zea, Zeêuws; nl, Zeeuws; vls, Zêeuws) is a group of Friso-Franconian language varieties spoken in the southwestern parts of the Netherlands. It is currently considered a Low Franconian dialect of Dutch, but there have been movements to promote the status of Zeelandic from a dialect of Dutch to a separate regional language, which have been denied by the Dutch Ministry of Internal Affairs. Miffy
Miffy ( nl, Nijntje, pronounced ) is a fictional rabbit appearing in a series of picture books drawn and written by Dutch artist Dick Bruna. The original Dutch name, "Nijntje", is a shortening of the diminutive ''konijntje'', "little rabbit". The first Miffy book was produced in 1955 and almost thirty others have followed. In total they have sold over 100 million copies. In addition, two separate television series as well as items such as clothes and toys featuring the character followed. Pete (also called Peg-Leg Pete, Bad Pete and Black Pete, among other names) is a fictional character of The Walt Disney Company. Created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, Pete is traditionally depicted as the arch-nemesis of Mickey Mouse and his associates in various cartoons and comics. He originally bore the appearance of an anthropomorphic bear, but with the advent of Mickey in 1928, he was defined as a cat. The ''Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant'' is a newspaper for the province of Zeeland, Netherlands published and owned by DPG Media of Belgium. Founded in 1758, it is the third-oldest newspaper of the Netherlands.
