The Engadin or Engadine (;This is the name in the two Romansh idioms that are spoken in the Engadin, Vallader and Puter, as well as in Sursilvan and Rumantsch Grischun. In Surmiran, the name is ''Nagiadegna'', and in Sutsilvan, it is ''Gidegna''. ; ; ) is a long high Alps, Alpine valley region in the eastern Swiss Alps in the canton of Graubünden in southeasternmost Switzerland with about 25,000 inhabitants. It follows the route of the Inn (river), Inn () from its headwaters at Maloja Pass in the southwest running roughly northeast until the Inn flows into Austria, little less than one hundred kilometers downstream. The En/Inn subsequently flows at Passau into the Danube, making it the only Swiss river to drain into the Black Sea. The Engadine is protected by high mountain ranges on all sides and is famous for its sunny climate, beautiful landscapes and outdoor activities. Engadine, New South Wales
Engadine is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Engadine is located south of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. History The area was reserved for a national park in 1879, but in 1890 Charles McAlister was able to purchase land here which became known as McAlister's Estate. After an overseas trip, the family renamed their estate 'Engadine' after the Engadin Valley in Switzerland. The wildflowers in the valley here and surrounding national parks were reminiscent of the valley and hills in Engadin. Charles McAlister subdivided his land sometime after 1900. He continued to live in Engadine but later moved to Cronulla, where he died in 1915. Originally settled for grazing land, Engadine soon became a destination for camping and day-trips from the inner-Sydney suburbs. Engadine ( ) is an unincorporated community in Mackinac County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The community is located within Garfield Township. As an unincorporated community, Engadine has no legally defined boundaries or population statistics of its own but does have its own post office with the 49827 ZIP Code. History The history of Engadine is similar to that of the nearby community of Naubinway to the southeast. The first European settler to the area was William Boucha and his family, who moved to the Naubinway area in 1843. Naubinway and Engadine began as lumbering communities at the beginning of the lumber boom in the Upper Peninsula by 1880. The two communities grew rapidly and became centers of large lumbering companies. The new community was officially named Kennedy when its post office opened on August 23, 1889. RFA ''Engadine'' (K08) was a helicopter support ship of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. The need for ''Engadine'' was seen in the mid-1960s as more and more helicopters were deployed from Royal Navy aircraft carriers and surface combatants. The ship was ordered in August 1964, from Henry Robb of Leith, and commissioned in December 1967, replacing . She was the third British ship named HMS ''Engadine'' the previous two being a seaplane carrier and an aircraft transport ship. ''Engadine'' comes from the Engadin valley in south-east Switzerland, which is represented by the alphorns and edelweiss on her badge. Engadine, also known as the Captain John K. Hoyt House and Engadine 1885 Inn, is a historic home located near Candler, Buncombe County, North Carolina. It was built in 1885, and is a -story, six-bay, rectangular plan, Queen Anne-style frame dwelling. It is richly decorated and features inset porches, cantilevered corner balcony, and varied shingled and sawnwork decoration. It is currently used as a bed and breakfast inn.
