Endarasha
Endarasha is a small town in Kenya's former Central Province. It is located in Nyeri County, a county created with Kenya's new (2010) constitution. Endarasha Boy's High School is located there as is a local government clinic. Endarasha lies 2416m above sea level and (0 37E). It is situated in the continent of Africa in Kenya, Central Province, Nyeri North District, Kieni West division and 35 km North west of Nyeri town. It lies on the foot of the Aberdare ranges and adjacent to the Aberdares National Park. Cool, temperate climate most of the year is experienced. Endarasha is surrounded by land ideal for agriculture. Amongst the products from the region are Irish potatoes, cabbage, maize, beans, wheat, bulb onions etc.. Dairy products are also produced. The school is constructed next to the Endarasha township, along the Mweiga-Watuka road (all weather gravel finish road). Its also surrounded by fairly densely populated villages on all sides. Nyeri County
Nyeri County is a county located in the central region of Kenya. Its capital and largest town is Nyeri. It has a population of 759,164 and an area of 2361 km2. It is currently under the leadership of H.E. Governor Mutahi Kahiga. Other governors who have led this county include Nderitu Gachagua, who passed while receiving treatment in London, Wamathai Samuel Githaiga, and Wahome Gakuru, who died in a road accident at Kabati near Kenol heading towards Thika Super Highway. Central Province (Kenya)
The Central Province ( sw, Kati, ) was a region in central Kenya until 2013, when Kenya's provinces were replaced by a system of counties. It covered an area of and was located to the north of Nairobi and west of Mount Kenya (''see maps''). The province had 4,383,743 inhabitants according to the 2009 census. The provincial headquarters was Nyeri. Central Province was the ancestral home of the Gikuyu people. Climate The climate of Central Province is generally cooler than that of the rest of Kenya, due to the region's higher altitude. Rainfall is fairly reliable, falling in two seasons, one from early March to May (the long rains) and a second during October and November (the short rains). The Aberdare National Park is a protected area in the Aberdare Mountain Range in central Kenya located east of the East African Rift Valley. It covers the higher areas and the Aberdare Salient to the east. Overview The park is located about 100 km north of Nairobi and stretches over a wide variety of terrain at altitudes from to . Edward James Corbett (25 July 1875 – 19 April 1955) was a British hunter, tracker, naturalist, and author who hunted a number of man-eating tigers and leopards in the Indian subcontinent. He held the rank of colonel in the British Indian Army and was frequently called upon by the Government of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh, now the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, to kill man-eating tigers and leopards that were preying on people in the nearby villages of the Kumaon-Garhwal Regions. He authored ''Man-Eaters of Kumaon'', ''Jungle Lore'', and other books recounting his hunts and experiences, which enjoyed critical acclaim and commercial success. Robert Baden-Powell
Lieutenant-General Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell, ( ; (Commonly pronounced by others as ) 22 February 1857 – 8 January 1941) was a British Army officer, writer, founder and first Chief Scout of the world-wide Scout Movement, and founder, with his sister Agnes, of the world-wide Girl Guide / Girl Scout Movement. Baden-Powell authored the first editions of the seminal work '' Scouting for Boys'', which was an inspiration for the Scout Movement. Educated at Charterhouse School, Baden-Powell served in the British Army from 1876 until 1910 in India and Africa. In 1899, during the Second Boer War in South Africa, Baden-Powell successfully defended the town in the Siege of Mafeking. Several of his books, written for military reconnaissance and scout training in his African years, were also read by boys. Outspan Hotel
The Outspan Hotel is in Nyeri, Kenya. It was built up from an old farm by Eric Sherbrooke Walker in the 1920s. Walker had purchased of Crown Land in Nyeri and in 1928, opened the Outspan Hotel, overlooking the gorge of a river in the Aberdare Range. The hotel now has 45 rooms on of gardens. Background In 1939, Baden-Powell and his wife Olave moved to a cottage he had commissioned on the grounds of the hotel. The Paxtu cottage is integrated into the hotel buildings and serves as a small Scouting museum. The hunter Jim Corbett also lived there.
