Endangered Plants
In September 2016, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) listed 3654 endangered plant species. Of all evaluated plant species, 17% are listed as endangered. The IUCN also lists 99 subspecies and 101 varieties as endangered. No subpopulations of plants have been evaluated by the IUCN. For a species to be considered endangered by the IUCN it must meet certain quantitative criteria which are designed to classify taxa facing "a very high risk of extinction". An even higher risk is faced by critically endangered species, which meet the quantitative criteria for endangered species. Critically endangered plants are listed separately. There are 6147 plant species which are endangered or critically endangered. Additionally 1674 plant species (7.6% of those evaluated) are listed as data deficient, meaning there is insufficient information for a full assessment of conservation status. As these species typically have small distributions and/or populations, they are i ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Caudalejeunea Grolleana
''Caudalejeunea grolleana'' is a species of liverwort in the family Lejeuneaceae. It is an endangered species endemic to Madagascar. Taxonomy and history ''Caudalejeunea grolleana'' was first formally described in 1974 by the Dutch botanist Stephan Robbert Gradstein. The species epithet honours the German bryologist Rudolf Grolle, who provided the original type material from which the species was originally described. Distribution and habitat Known from just two localities in northern Madagascar, ''Caudalejeunea grolleana'' grows on tree bark and dead wood in undisturbed lowland rainforest. Its habitat in Madagascar has a tropical to subtropical climate. Description ''Caudalejeunea grolleana'' is a small, olive-green to brownish liverwort that grows in dense mats on tree bark. Individual plants rarely exceed 5 mm in length and are about 1–1.3 mm wide. The plant branches irregularly in a feather-like pattern, with branches growing at right angles to the main ste ... Andrewsianthus Ferrugineus
''Tritomaria ferruginea'' is a species of Marchantiophyta, liverwort in the family Lophoziaceae. It is an endangered species endemic to the eastern Himalayas. Taxonomy and history ''Andrewsianthus ferrugineus'' was described by Riclef Grolle in 1966 based on a type specimen collected in 1962 by Austrian botanist Josef Poelt from a ''Rhododendron'' forest near Ringmo, Nepal. This species was transferred to the genus ''Tritomaria'' on the basis of morphological characteristics in 2013, becoming ''Tritomaria ferriguniea''. Distribution and habitat Endemic to the temperate eastern Himalayas, ''Tritomaria ferruginea'' is known from Bhutan, India (Sikkim), and Nepal. In western Bhutan it has been found growing in damp coniferous forests dominated ''Abies'' and ''Juniperus'' at above sea level, while in India it has been found growing in both moorland and on rocky river banks at altitudes of above sea level. In Nepal it has been found growing in ''Rhododendron'' forests and alpine me ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Marchantiophyta
Liverworts are a group of non-vascular plant, non-vascular embryophyte, land plants forming the division Marchantiophyta (). They may also be referred to as hepatics. Like mosses and hornworts, they have a gametophyte-dominant life cycle, in which cells of the plant carry only a single set of genetic information. The division name was derived from the genus name ''Marchantia'', named after his father by French botanist Jean Marchant. It is estimated that there are about 9000 species of liverworts. Some of the more familiar species grow as a flattened leafless thallus, but most species are leafy with a form very much like a flattened moss. Leafy species can be distinguished from the apparently similar mosses on the basis of a number of features, including their single-celled rhizoids. Leafy liverworts also differ from most (but not all) mosses in that their leaves never have a costa (botany), costa (present in many mosses) and may bear marginal cilia (botany), cilia (very rare i ...
