Encrucijada
Encrucijada () is a municipality and town in the Villa Clara Province of Cuba. It was founded in 1850 and established as a municipality in 1910. History The municipality was divided into the barrios of Centro, Paso Real, El Santo and Vega Redonda. After the 1977 administrative reform, Calabazar de Sagua, part of Sagua la Grande, became part of it. Geography The municipality borders with Sagua la Grande, Cifuentes, Santa Clara and Camajuaní. It includes the villages and popular councils of Encrucijada Norte, Encrucijada Sur, Arroyo Naranjo, Calabazar de Sagua, Constancia (Abel Santamaría), El Chivo, El Perico, El Purio (Perucho Figueredo), El Santo, Emilio Córdova, La Sierra, Piñón, Playa Nazabal, Playa Piñón and San Francisco. Paso Real (Encrucijada)
Paso Real is a hamlet in Encrucijada, Cuba. History In March 1896 during the Cuban Revolution, general Jose Larcet Morlot went to Encrucijada, the Sagua la Chica River, Paso Real, and the Tunicú River. To later enter Santa Clara, Vega Alta, and Calabazar de Sagua. Paso Real used to be one of four barrios of Encrucijada, which increased to 8 in 1952. Calabazar De Sagua
Calabazar de Sagua, also shortened as Calabazar, is a Cuban village and ''consejo popular'' ("people's council", i.e. hamlet) of the municipality of Encrucijada, in Villa Clara Province, Cuba. Haydée Santamaría
Haydée Santamaría Cuadrado (December 30, 1922 – July 28, 1980) was a Cuban revolutionary and politician, regarded as a heroine in post-revolutionary Cuba. She participated in the assault on Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba on July 26, 1953, an action for which she was imprisoned along with Melba Hernández. She was a founding member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. and one of the first women to join the PCC. She maintained a high position in its leadership throughout her life. Abel Santamaría
Abel Santamaría Cuadrado (20 October 1927 – 26 July 1953) was a leader in the Cuban Revolutionary movement. Biography Abel was born in Encrucijada, Las Villas, Cuba. He and his sister Haydée allowed revolutionaries including Fidel Castro to use their tiny two-room apartment on the corner of O and 25th streets in Havana for planning the revolution. Abel and Haydee participated in the Moncada barracks assault in July 1953 that was intended to start the revolutionary overthrow of Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. Fidel Castro assigned Santamaria with the mission of taking the Saturnino Lora Hospital as part of the assault. Santamaria initially objected with the thought that Castro was taking on the more dangerous mission, stating "you are most needed by everyone".
