The Emirates Scout Association () is the national Scouting organization of the United Arab Emirates. Scouting was founded in the United Arab Emirates in 1972 and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1977. It has 5,522 members (as of 2011). Scouting was previously founded in several of the individual emirates prior to unification. Scouting was extant in Sharjah (emirate), Sharjah by 1957, and in Umm al-Qiwain prior to 1971. The national Scout camp is at Sharjah (city), Sharjah. Scouts participate in Arab Scout Region (World Organization of the Scout Movement), regional and world Scouting activities, and are active with other Persian Gulf States, Persian Gulf states training in Wood Badge. The Scout Motto is ''Kun Musta'idan'' or كن مستعداً, translating as ''Be Prepared'' in Arabic. The noun for a single Scout is ''Kashaf'' or كشاف in Arabic. World Organization Of The Scout Movement
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM ) is the largest and, after the Order of World Scouts (formed in 1911), is the second-oldest international organization in the Scout Movement, having been established in 1922. It has 176 members. These members are national scout organizations that founded WOSM or have subsequently been recognised by WOSM, which collectively have around 43 million participants. Its operational headquarters is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, although it is legally based in Geneva, Switzerland. WOSM's stated mission is "to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Scout Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society". Sharjah (emirate)
The Emirate of Sharjah (; ') is one of the emirates of the United Arab Emirates, which covers and has a population of over 1,400,000 (2015). Arab Scout Region (World Organization Of The Scout Movement)
The Arab Scout Region () also known as the Arab Scout Organization () is the regional support centre of the World Scout Bureau of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, headquartered in Cairo, Egypt. By 1954, Scouting had become so popular in Arab countries that WOSM established the Arab Scout Region in Damascus. The Region comprises 18 members of Scouting in Western Asia and North Africa, including Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Sudan, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Wood Badge is a Scout leader training program, first implemented by The Scout Association, The Boy Scouts Association in the United Kingdom in 1919 and subsequently adopted, with variations, by some other Scout organizations. Wood Badge Course (education), courses teach Scout leadership skills and instil an ideological Human bonding, bond and Personal commitment, commitment to the organizations. Scout Motto
The Scout Motto of the Scout movement is, in English, "Be Prepared", with most international branches of the group using a close translation of that phrase. These mottoes have been used by millions of Scouts around the world since 1907. Most of the member organizations of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) share the same mottoes.
